Supervisory Biologist

These vacancies are located in the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), Wildlife Services (WS). The incumbent will serve as either the National Wildlife Disease Coordinator or National Rabies Coordinator providing national leadership in strategic planning, development, coordination, and implementation of cooperative programs designed to contain, monitor and eliminate wildlife diseases. BASIC REQUIREMENT: Degree: bachelor's or higher degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; OR Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, PLUS appropriate experience or additional education. FOR THE GS-14 LEVEL: Resolving critical wildlife disease surveillance problems or developing new procedural approaches at a regional level; Isolating and defining unknown wildlife conditions to resolve critical problems or developing new approaches to working with other agencies; Working many different and unrelated processes and methods that apply to a broad range of wildlife disease management; and Communicating technical and environmental challenges of wildlife disease surveillance, management and eradication to multiple levels of authority. Note: There is no education substitution for this grade level. TRANSCRIPTS are required if: This position requires specific coursework or a degree in a specific field to be basically qualified. This education must have been successfully completed and obtained from an accredited school, college, or university. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
