Job Description

Direct Support Professional (DSP) – Saint Helens, OR

Community Access Services | Full-Time | $21.75–$22.75/Hour + $1,000 Hiring Bonus

Looking for a rewarding job where your work truly matters? At Community Access Services, being a Direct Support Professional (DSP) means helping people build independence, develop new skills, explore their communities, and live life on their own terms.

We’re hiring compassionate, dependable, and motivated Direct Support Professionals in Saint Helens, Oregon, to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). If you enjoy helping others, building meaningful relationships, and making a positive difference, this could be the opportunity you’ve been looking for.

No previous DSP or caregiving experience? No problem! We welcome candidates who are eager to learn, and we provide paid training to help you develop the skills and confidence to succeed.

Why Become a Direct Support Professional at Community Access Services?

We believe supporting our employees is just as important as supporting the people we serve.

  • Competitive Pay: Earn $21.75–$22.75 per hour, depending on experience.

  • $1,000 Hiring Bonus: Receive half after 2 months and the other after 4 months of employment.

  • Consistent Scheduling: Predictable schedules that help support work-life balance.

  • Paid Training: Learn essential skills through company-provided training and ongoing professional development.

  • Career Growth: Build your experience and explore opportunities for advancement.

  • Supportive Leadership: Work with a collaborative management team committed to your success.

  • Meaningful Work: Help individuals develop independence, pursue their interests, and connect with their communities.

What Does a Direct Support Professional Do?

As a DSP, you’ll provide individualized care and support based on each person’s needs, goals, preferences, and support plan. Your work will help promote independence, dignity, safety, and quality of life.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Daily Living Support: Assist with personal care, hygiene, dressing, meal preparation, and household activities as needed.

  • Community Engagement: Support participation in recreational activities, social events, community outings, and personal interests.

  • Independence and Life Skills: Help individuals build practical skills, pursue personal goals, and develop greater confidence.

  • Person-Centered Support: Encourage self-advocacy, informed choice, dignity, and individual decision-making.

  • Medication Support: Provide medication assistance or administration in accordance with training, authorization, and established procedures.

  • Documentation and Communication: Record services accurately, observe changes in well-being, and report incidents according to established procedures.

  • Team Collaboration: Work professionally with coworkers, supervisors, families, and other members of an individual’s support network, as appropriate.

  • Respect and Confidentiality: Maintain professional boundaries and help create a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment.

Direct Support Professional Qualifications

We’re looking for people who are patient, reliable, compassionate, and committed to helping others succeed.

Required qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old with either a high school diploma or GED.

  • Valid driver’s license required for all day-shift and swing-shift positions, with the ability to meet company approved driver requirements.

  • Ability to pass a national background check.

  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and assist with mobility support as needed.

  • Willingness to complete required training and follow established safety procedures and individualized support plans.

Experience is welcome but not required. Previous experience in caregiving, disability services, behavioral support, direct care, personal assistance, or human services can be helpful, but we’re also excited to meet candidates who are ready to learn.
