Job Description The Physician Coding Manager, under the direction of their Associate Director, will provide daily management of Faculty Practice revenue management operations functions related to charge capture, coding, edit resolution, reporting, and collection of patient service revenue for assigned clinical departments. Providing coding functions for approximately 6,000 providers, approximately 150,000 encounters per year, and generating $16.5m in revenue for UCSF. The role operates within a healthcare records or billing team and requires close liaison with clinicians, clinical coders, and administrative staff to resolve documentation queries. Coders must maintain currency with coding updates, compliance requirements, and professional standards, and participate in regular audits to monitor coding quality. Expectations include timely processing of case volumes while maintaining high accuracy, adherence to confidentiality and information governance standards, and contribution to process improvements that enhance data quality and coding efficiency. The Physician Coding Manager, Will Handle The Following Provides direction, sets priorities, and analyzes workflow for subordinate revenue cycle activities, according to established policies and management guidance. Recommends, develops and implements new and revised procedures as needed. Oversee daily internal activities to ensure that their departments meet revenue cycle targets, performance metrics and engage in best practices. The incumbent will collaborate with various members of the Faculty Practice revenue management operations management and staff to ensure that new revenue related projects are rolled out across their department(s), compliance requirements are met, unit initiatives are implemented and cross staff/departmental training is complete. Will also be heavily engaged with their departments to ensure that provider training is coordinated, new lines of business have appropriate charge capture and coding set up, and that various reports are made available to keep the department, along with outstanding deficiencies. Should be knowledgeable with all applicable professional fee coding regulations, ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, LCDs, and NCDs. They should be able to effectively communicate these regulations to all levels of faculty, management, and staff. Responsible for providing day-to-day oversight of professional fee coding staff. The Supervisor will coordinate and conduct coding quality reviews, analyze findings, and provide follow up education to coding staff and providers. The Revenue Manager must be facile and knowledgeable of all applicable billing and coding regulations and be able to effectively communicate these regulations to all levels of faculty, management, and staff. Qualifications Requirements: Bachelor's degree or four years of relevant experience; and f ive or more years of professional medical coding experience, with three or more years of experience working in a supervisory or managerial role. . Excellent communication, writing, and inter-personal abilities, including skills such as attitude, diplomacy and persuasiveness, analytical ability, strong judgment, and managerial skills. Strong leadership and team management skills to include strong analytic and critical thinking skills. Moderate to advanced knowledge of all facets of the billing and revenue cycle process; including knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, LCD, and NCDs. Knowledge of the federal and state Medicare and Medi-Cal policies and how these programs impact billing and collections. Intermediate or higher level functionality with Microsoft Office suite of programs, presentation generation, reporting and analysis . Coding Certification: RHIT, RHIA, CPC or CCS-P.
