Marquee Arts is a Michigan based non-profit organization committed to keeping community inspiration alive through the preservation and programming of historic theaters. Curators of film, theater and live entertainment, we proudly oversee the operations, upkeep, and artistic direction of the Michigan and State theaters in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Marquee Arts is the founding entity for Michigan's Cinetopia Film Festival and curator of the Not Just For Kids performance series. Rooted in Michigan's artistic history, the organization is committed to producing state of the art creative programming, unparalleled in diversity, quality and scope.

Marquee Arts is seeking a highly skilled and collaborative Education Manager to serve as the primary point of contact for educational initiatives and strategic partnerships while supporting Marquee Arts' commitment to accessibility, community impact, and innovation.

Summary : The Education Manager is responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing educational programming, community partnerships, and workforce development initiatives that advance the mission of Marquee Arts. This role creates meaningful learning experiences that deepen community engagement, foster lifelong appreciation for cinema and the performing arts, and support audience growth.

Working collaboratively across the organization, the Education Manager serves as the primary point of contact for educational initiatives and strategic partnerships while supporting Marquee Arts' commitment to accessibility, community impact, and innovation.

Educational Programming

  • Develop and coordinate school field trips, film education programs, speaker series, filmmaker conversations, youth media programs, workshops, intergenerational learning experiences, community conversations, and special educational screenings.
  • Collaborate with Programming and Marketing to integrate educational opportunities into year-round programming.

Community Partnerships

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with schools, universities, libraries, museums, arts organizations, nonprofit organizations, civic groups, and corporate partners.
  • Develop collaborative programs that broaden access to the arts while strengthening Marquee Arts' community impact.

Workforce Development

  • Coordinate educational and career pathway initiatives focused on cinema exhibition, projection, technical theater, event production, arts administration, and film programming.
  • Support apprenticeship, internship, volunteer, and mentorship opportunities in collaboration with internal staff and industry partners.

Your Stage, Your Screen Grant Program

  • Coordinate application processes, nonprofit support, review activities, program outcomes, impact measurement, and stewardship reporting.

Projectionist Apprenticeship Program

  • Coordinate curriculum development, industry partnerships, participant recruitment, workshops, mentorship opportunities, and outcome tracking.

Onscreen Nonprofit Advertising Grant Program

  • Manage nonprofit participation, scheduling of onscreen content, impact measurement, and community partnerships.

Audience Development

  • Partner with Programming, Marketing, Membership, and Development to attract new audiences, increase Gen Z participation, support engagement initiatives, and position the theaters as vibrant community gathering spaces.

 

Additional duties

  • Represent Marquee Arts at community meetings and events.
  • Assist with grant applications and reporting.
  • Track program participation and evaluate outcomes.
  • Maintain calendars, budgets, and project timelines.
  • Stay current on trends in arts education and audience development.

 

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • The Education Manager will be evaluated on, including but not limited to:
  • Increase participation among students, educators, and Gen Z audiences.
  • Build meaningful partnerships with schools, universities, libraries, nonprofits, and community organizations.
  • Create sustainable educational and workforce development opportunities.
  • Expand mission awareness while contributing to audience development and earned revenue.
  • Position the Michigan and State Theaters as community gathering places for learning, conversation, and creativity.

 

Work Environment The work is primarily indoors within a theater building(s) and may have some exposure to fumes, odor, dust, variant temperatures, etc. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

 

Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This role requires walking and standing for extended periods of time. This role requires working at a desk for extended periods of time. Extended computer use is required. This role also regularly requires reaching, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing stairs. Lifting and/or moving items that weigh up to 50 pounds may be required.

Required Education and Experience

  • Three to five years of experience in arts education, community engagement, nonprofit programming, cultural organizations, museums, theaters, or a related field.
  • Strong project management, partnership development, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently.



Preferred Education and Experience Passion for cinema, performing arts, historic preservation, and community engagement. Grant-funded programming experience preferred.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • The salary range is $48,000 to $58,000 annually.
