Kennel Technician

Job Description

Job Description

Do you love animals, enjoy hands-on work, and take pride in making sure pets feel safe, comfortable, and well cared for?

Bartram Trail Veterinary Hospital is looking for a dependable, compassionate Kennel Technician to join our team. Whether you have professional kennel experience, have worked with animals in another setting, or simply have a strong background caring for pets, we want to hear from you!

You don’t have to know everything on day one. We’re looking for someone who is willing to learn, works well with others, takes responsibility for their work, and genuinely cares about the animals in their care.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Our Kennel Technicians provide daily care for dogs and cats staying in our boarding facility. You’ll play an important role in keeping our boarding patients safe, comfortable, clean, exercised, and happy throughout their stay.

This is a hands-on position where you should expect to spend the majority of your time working directly in the boarding area.

If you enjoy animals, don’t mind getting dirty, and can appreciate that a successful day may involve a LOT of laundry, cleaning, feeding, walking, and cuddling, you may be a great fit for our team!

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

• Provide attentive, compassionate care to boarding dogs and cats.
• Feed, exercise, and provide appropriate enrichment for boarded pets.
• Monitor pets throughout their stay and communicate any concerns to the veterinary team.
• Clean and sanitize dog runs, cat condos, kennels, and common areas.
• Check pets in and out of boarding while providing friendly, professional customer service.
• Build positive relationships with pet owners and communicate professionally with clients and team members.
• Administer medications to boarding patients as directed.
• Bathe dogs and perform basic grooming tasks such as brush-outs and toenail trims.
• Complete laundry throughout the day — yes, there will be lots of towels and blankets!
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe boarding environment.
• Assist with daily cleaning and light maintenance throughout the boarding area and hospital as needed.
• Follow hospital safety, sanitation, and animal-care procedures.
• Work independently while also communicating and working effectively with the veterinary team.
• Arrive on time and reliably for scheduled shifts.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

We’re looking for someone who:

• Genuinely enjoys working with dogs and cats.
• Is dependable, responsible, and willing to work hard.
• Can safely and confidently handle animals of different sizes and personalities.
• Is comfortable with cleaning, laundry, lifting, bending, standing, walking, and other physical aspects of the job.
• Has a positive attitude and works well as part of a team.
• Can follow instructions and pay attention to details.
• Communicates respectfully with clients and coworkers.
• Is comfortable working in a busy veterinary environment.
• Understands that animal care involves both rewarding moments and plenty of cleaning!
• Is willing to learn new skills and take direction.

ANIMAL EXPERIENCE COUNTS!

Veterinary or kennel experience is great, but it isn’t the only experience that matters.

We’re also interested in candidates with experience in:

• Dog daycare or boarding facilities.
• Animal shelters or rescues.
• Grooming.
• Pet sitting or professional pet care.
• Dog training.
• Veterinary assisting.
• Animal science or veterinary programs.
• Personal or volunteer animal-care experience.

If you have meaningful animal-handling or animal-care experience that isn’t obvious from your work history, please tell us about it in your cover letter. We’d love to learn more about what you’ve done!

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN

Working in our boarding area can be a great way to gain valuable experience in a veterinary hospital.

Depending on your experience and interests, you may have opportunities to learn more about:

• Safe dog and cat handling and restraint.
• Patient observation and recognizing changes in behavior or health.
• Medication administration.
• Veterinary hospital procedures and sanitation.
• Basic grooming and patient care.
• How a veterinary hospital operates.
• Communication with veterinary clients and the medical team.
• Working alongside Veterinary Assistants and Veterinary Technicians.
• The day-to-day care of hospitalized and boarding patients.
