Job Overview The University of the District of Columbia David A. Clark School of Law invites applications for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Law to direct the Community Development Law Clinic. The clinic provides transactional and business lawyering skills to non‑profit organizations and small, urban entrepreneurs, offering comprehensive professional consulting services. Students receive direct legal services to help them establish and operate businesses and programs. Position Details Number of Vacancies: 1 Area of Consideration: Open to the Public Position Status: Full‑Time, Regular Tenure Track Pay Plan, Series & Grade: Commensurate with rank and experience Salary Range: up to $130,737.23 Closing Date: Open Until Filled Location: 4200 Connecticut Ave NW, Washington, DC 20008 Start Date: January 4, 2027 Responsibilities Direct the Community Development Law Clinic, overseeing clinical teaching, supervising law students, mentoring student representation, and ensuring high‑quality legal services to clients. Integrate legal doctrine, professional skills, ethics, and reflective practice into experiential courses. Provide timely, constructive feedback and assess student performance using clear learning outcomes. Minimum Qualifications Assistant Professor of Law: Earned Juris Doctor degree and good standing membership in the Bar of the District of Columbia or another state. Potential for teaching excellence and scholarly growth. Demonstrated professional competence in the relevant field with potential for professional growth. Initial appointment without tenure for up to three years. Associate Professor of Law: Earned Juris Doctor degree and good standing membership in the Bar of the District of Columbia or another state. Demonstrated teaching excellence and record of scholarship. Demonstrated professional competence, attainment, and potential for continued professional growth. At least three years of full‑time teaching experience at an accredited law school. Required Competencies Ability to supervise and mentor law students in competent and ethical client representation. Expertise in the substantive area of law relevant to the clinic and delivery of high‑quality legal services. Ability to teach experiential courses that integrate legal doctrine, professional skills, ethics, and reflective practice. Ability to provide timely, constructive feedback and assess student performance using clear learning outcomes. Commitment to access to justice, community engagement, and serving historically underserved populations.
