Job Title: Wire Harness Assembly Technician Job Description
The Wire Harness Assembly Technician supports all wire harness and cable assembly activities for the Assembly and Production department, building large industrial harnesses from scratch in a dynamic start-up manufacturing environment. You will work as part of a 15-20 person team to produce complex harnesses similar to those used in aviation and aerospace, using your ability to interpret drawings, solve problems, and contribute to a breakthrough product with a meaningful mission.

Work Environment
This role is based in a climate-controlled assembly shop and corporate headquarters environment, providing a comfortable and consistent workspace. The position is on 2nd shift, with hours from approximately 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., and there are multiple openings on this shift. The operation is in the process of consolidating into a nearby facility, with the entire operation expected to move to a new site within a short driving distance by next summer. The culture is very friendly, driven, and collaborative, with a strong emphasis on teamwork, communication, and mutual support. You will work alongside a manufacturing team of 15-20 people, using a variety of mechanical and electrical tools, including torque wrenches, crimpers, cutting tools, and other basic hand and power tools. The environment is dynamic and fast-paced, reflecting a modern start-up feel where processes and products continue to evolve, and employees are encouraged to contribute ideas and participate in process improvements. Dress is typical for a hands-on manufacturing and assembly setting, prioritizing safety and practicality while working with tools and equipment.

The Wire Harness Assembly Technician supports all wire harness and cable assembly activities for the Assembly and Production department, building large industrial harnesses from scratch in a dynamic start-up manufacturing environment. You will work as part of a 15-20 person team to produce complex harnesses similar to those used in aviation and aerospace, using your ability to interpret drawings, solve problems, and contribute to a breakthrough product with a meaningful mission.
Responsibilities
- Build large, complex wire harnesses and cable assemblies from scratch, start to finish, for use in industrial products similar to aviation and aerospace applications.
- Interpret and work from drawings and diagrams to create complex wire harnesses without relying on completed formal schematics, adapting to the needs of a start-up environment.
- Assemble harnesses that include D399 and similar connectors, as well as other aerospace, aviation, or military-style connectors.
- Cut, strip, crimp, terminate, and label wires accurately, ensuring high-quality and reliable electrical connections.
- Use mechanical and electrical assembly tools, including torque wrenches, crimpers, cutting tools, and basic hand tools, to complete daily production tasks.
- Follow IPC-620 standards and best practices for wire harness and cable assembly when applicable.
- Collaborate with a manufacturing team of 15-20 technicians to meet production goals and timelines.
- Identify and troubleshoot issues in harness builds, applying mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills to resolve them efficiently.
- Work within an evolving start-up environment, adapting to changing processes, documentation, and product iterations.
- Communicate clearly with supervisors, engineers, and teammates to clarify requirements, escalate issues, and ensure alignment on build standards.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by providing feedback on processes, tooling, and build methods.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow safety procedures in a climate-controlled assembly shop.
- Support production needs on a 2nd shift schedule, including consistent attendance and reliability.
- Lift and move materials, components, and assemblies weighing up to 50+ pounds as needed during the build process.
- Minimum of 2+ years of recent experience building wire harnesses for aviation, aerospace, military, or other heavy industrial assemblies.
- Hands-on experience with wire harness or cable assembly, including end-to-end build from raw materials to finished harness.
- Ability to interpret drawings and build complex wire harnesses from scratch without a formal schematic.
- Experience working with D38999 or similar circular connectors and other aerospace or military-style connectors.
- IPC-620 certification or direct experience working with aerospace / military specification connectors.
- Proficiency using mechanical and electrical assembly tools, including torque wrenches, crimpers, cutting tools, and basic hand tools.
- Demonstrated ability to cut, crimp, and label wires accurately and consistently.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working on mechanical and electrical assemblies.
- Self-starter mindset with the ability to work independently and take initiative in a dynamic environment.
- Confident communication skills with the ability to ask questions, seek clarification, and speak up when issues arise.
- Proven problem-solving ability and comfort working within ambiguity in a fast-changing start-up setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft applications for basic documentation and communication.
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds safely as part of daily work activities.
- Experience building aerospace or aviation harnesses using high-reliability crimp tools such as AFM8 or similar specialized crimpers.
- Background as an aircraft mechanic, bringing combined mechanical and electrical experience.
- Prior experience working in the early stages of a start-up company, especially in manufacturing or production.
- Hobbies or personal projects involving mechanical work, such as automotive, fabrication, or electronics, demonstrating hands-on passion.
- Familiarity with production environments and basic blueprint reading.
- Comfort using power tools in a controlled manufacturing setting.
- Strong team orientation and positive attitude, with a willingness to support teammates and contribute to a collaborative culture.
