Summary Of Primary Function/General Purpose Of Position The X‑Ray Technician performs digital X‑ray studies on patients per the orders placed by providers. The X‑Ray Technician is a multi‑skilled clinical professional who works within the scope of practice to assist in patient care under the direction of the provider. Essential Job Functions Safely performs provider‑ordered radiographic examinations, including proper patient positioning, immobilization, and utilizing appropriate radiation protection. Sets up and adjusts supportive and immobilization equipment and devices as required by individual cases, positioning and handling patients with a high degree of safety and professionalism. Accurately documents patient encounters within Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Determines and selects proper electronic and technical factors which safeguard the patient, x‑ray tube, and equipment. Maintains clinical and administrative skills to meet patient care and daily operational needs; collects patient specimens and runs point‑of‑care lab tests; travels to other facilities for BSMH providers or adjusts work hours as directed by the manager to meet patient care needs. Directs and practices sterile technique to prevent cross‑contamination of disease. Reports immediately any malfunction, necessary adjustments, or repairs of equipment to supervisor. Other duties include ordering supplies, lab and diagnostic tests, disposing of contaminated supplies, patient registration, scheduling, phone triage, cash handling, check‑in/check‑out, and performing scribing duties as needed. Licensing/Certification Certification and registration with ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) (required) State licensure (preferred, unless required by the state where the job is being performed). If performed in Virginia, state licensure is required. BLS Basic Life Support – American Heart Association (preferred upon hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care) (required) Education Associate's from an ARRT‑accredited institute (preferred) Experience 1 year experience in radiation safety and patient care (preferred) 1 year experience in medical assisting (preferred) Experience with Radiology Information System (preferred) Training EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) (preferred) Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS) (preferred) Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Medical terminology and ability to use standard office equipment (required) Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to collaboratively work with patients, families and teams within a high‑volume environment (preferred) Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask without prior instruction or direction (preferred) Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit. Demonstrates knowledge of principles of growth and development of the lifespan and possesses ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret appropriate information to identify each patient’s requirements relative to age, specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.
