Job Title: Stepdown Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Cardiac Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nightshift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 1 year License: Required Certifications: - ACLS - BLS - NIHSS Must-Have: - Cardiac experience preferred - EPIC experience Description: The unit has a total of 32 beds, including 22 stepdown beds and 10 floor beds. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3 for stepdown and 1:5 or 1:6 for floor patients. Common patient types include cardiology, heart failure, and cardiac surgery. Nurses are required to titrate drips, including heparin, insulin, nitro, Cardizem, nicardipine, Lasix, amiodarone, and dobutamine. A dedicated charge nurse is present during each shift. Three house supervisors are available in the building at all times. Clinical associates usually assist with patient care; overnight staffing typically has 2 associates for a ratio of 1:16, but can improve to 1:8 when budgeted for 4 associates. Respiratory equipment available includes NC, CPAP, BiPAP, HFNC, and trach to vent. Tele-monitoring is done by techs located in separate rooms, while RNs are not required to read their own strips. The monitoring system used is Phillips. Self-scheduling is available, providing flexibility, with options for block scheduling. Weekend requirements involve working several shifts over a four-week schedule. Holiday requirements include working on designated holidays. There is no call or standby requirement. Floating between units may occur, with travelers being the first to be pulled off their unit. Scrub color is royal blue. Unit-specific orientation is provided.
