ISDenver’s mission is to develop highly motivated, academically successful bilingual learners who are inter‑culturally adept and make positive contributions in a complex world. Position Summary The ISDenver counselor provides social‑emotional support, consultation, and intervention services to promote nurturing environments and relationships among children, families, and staff; offers prevention‑based social emotional and behavior support; and imparts skills to staff and families around social and emotional development. Responsibilities Provide research‑based short‑term school counseling for students. Support students’ social‑emotional growth by facilitating small groups. Respond to students in emotional distress as needed and in consultation with classroom teachers, learning specialists, families, and directors. Create and update individualized support plans with specific social, emotional, or mental‑health goals, and communicate plans with families and staff. Offer social‑emotional support, consultation, and intervention services to promote nurturing relationships among students, families, and staff. Support and coach teachers and other staff in implementing SEL and classroom‑management strategies. Maintain records of student social‑emotional development. Conduct classroom observations when necessary. Collaborate with the Director of Counseling, other directors/principals on newsletters and parent‑education efforts throughout the year. Work with the PYP coordinator to create and model SEL lessons for ECE‑Grade 5. Participate in planning and collaboration related to cross‑division education events. Maintain a network of local outside mental‑health professionals and make referrals when warranted. Work with divisional leadership to create behavior‑learning plans or behavior‑goal charts. Collaborate in implementing a DEIB‑based social‑and‑emotional curriculum. Maintain timely and accurate documentation through the registrar system. Facilitate transitions for students across grade levels. Support other counselors as part of the counseling team, including when assigned to divisions not primarily assigned. May be required to work outside regular hours for student crises, family emergencies, or other matters. Perform duties assigned by building directors, including recess, before‑school, after‑school, and lunch duty. Work with students who have developmental diagnoses such as executive‑functioning or ADHD delays that are not academically specific. Qualifications & Competencies Master’s degree or equivalent in counseling, social work, or school psychology from a CACREP‑accredited institution (required). NCC certification, LPC, LCSW, or similar license (required). Two years of experience working in ECE, elementary, or middle school environments. English proficiency with excellent verbal and written communication skills (required) – Level B2 required, C1+ preferred; equivalent certification such as TOEFL or IELTS. Knowledge of age‑appropriate teaching methods and developmental stages (required). Analytical and problem‑solving skills. Computer literacy, specifically Google Suite. Ability to work independently or as part of a team, providing direction when needed. Sound judgment and professional boundaries. Eagerness to engage with co‑curricular, extracurricular, and PTO activities that promote the school’s programs and reputation. Commitment to learning about and implementing International Baccalaureate and DEIB practices in the classroom and community. Collaborative, team‑oriented, globally minded, innovative, and compassionate. Professionalism, punctuality, and reliability. International work experience and appreciation for pluralistic cultures is a plus. Physical Demands / Work Environment Regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds. Occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Regular sitting, standing, walking; using hands, arms; seeing, talking, hearing. Exposure to heat and cold. Occasional bending, stooping, or kneeling. Visual & Environmental Demands Use digital displays (computers, projectors, tablets, monitors) ~6‑8 hours per workday. Function in standard overhead lighting, fluorescent or LED. Handle moderate to high noise levels; classrooms, music performances, lunch rooms, crowded hallways. Cognitive & Executive Demands Manage multiple projects simultaneously; pivot tasks as needed. Process and follow complex, multi‑step instructions in verbal and written formats. Maintain professional boundaries in 1:1 or group interactions with students, staff, and the public. Location & Schedule Expected work hours: 7:45 am–3:45 pm, Monday‑Friday. Work outside regular hours may be required occasionally. Remote work not available. All employees must be based in Denver, CO. Benefits Paid leave: Thanksgiving (3 days), winter (2 weeks), 4th of July (1 week). Faculty: summer (~2 months), October, February, April (1 week each), 6 days FTO (pro‑rated for part‑time).
