Radiation Therapy Technologist

\n

The Radiation Therapy Technologist is responsible for the delivery of ionizing radiation to treat patients in accordance with the Radiation Oncologist’s prescription and simulation instructions. This role involves executing treatment plans with a focus on patient safety, quality assurance, and effective communication.

Essential Job Functions\n

\n
• Administer radiation treatments to patients and monitor treatment delivery.
\n
• Ensure comprehensive documentation is completed accurately.
\n
• Obtain and evaluate portal images and implement corrective measures as needed.
\n
• Perform necessary calculations related to treatment.
\n
• Prepare the treatment room and equipment prior to patient sessions.
\n
• Inform and instruct patients regarding equipment and procedures.
\n
• Ensure informed consent is obtained from patients.
\n
• Transfer and position patients according to treatment requirements.
\n
• Simulate treatment portals in accordance with the Radiation Oncologist’s instructions.
\n
• Document precise and legible setup instructions, including treatment distance, field size, and angles.
\n
• Assess diagnostic studies to evaluate field placement.
\n
• Prepare and construct immobilization devices as necessary.
\n
• Place markings or tattoos for setup purposes.
\n
• Perform calculations for monitor units following procedures set by the Medical Physicist.
\n
• Construct and mount individualized shielding blocks and lead cut-outs as required.
\n
• Prepare and apply individualized bolus as needed.
\n
• Carry out quality assurance procedures for treatment units and simulators as per departmental policies.
\n
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment while ensuring adequate supplies are stocked.
\n
• Monitor equipment operations and report malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
\n
• Assess and respond to patients' physical conditions and special needs, ensuring they receive educational materials about their treatment.
\n
• Assist in teaching and training students during their clinical rotations.
\n
• Lift and move a minimum of 25 lbs., and stand for a minimum of 4 hours a day.
\n
• Adapt care to meet the diverse needs of patients including age, culture, and communication requirements.
\n
• Adhere to the standards established in the organization’s competencies.
\n

Qualifications Required Skills & Experience\n

\n
• 1-2 years of relevant experience in radiation therapy.
\n

Preferred Skills & Experience\n

\n
• 3-5 years of experience in radiation therapy is preferred.
\n

Required Hard Skills\n

\n
• Experience with True Beam, linear accelerators, and simulators (SIMS).
\n

Required Soft Skills\n

\n
• Excellent communication skills.
\n
• Compassionate, empathetic approach to patient care.
\n
• Respectful and adaptable to various patient needs.
\n

Education & Certification Required Education\n

\n
• High school diploma or equivalent.
\n
• Graduate of an approved Radiation Therapy Program.
\n

Required Certifications & Licensure\n

\n
• Registered by the ARRT in Radiation Therapy.
\n
• Current license as required by the state of New Jersey.
\n

Schedule Notes\n

\n
• Varied shifts between 5:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
\n
• This assignment may last from 13 to 24 weeks depending on returning staff availability.
\n
• No weekend or holiday requirements.
\n
• No on-call or float responsibilities.
\n
