Description:
The Registered Radiologic Technologist is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for patients during designated time frames.
The role is specifically within the Heart & Vascular Institute, focusing on patient populations requiring invasive cardiology or radiology studies.
The Registered Radiologic Technologist assists physicians in all procedures, providing valuable service to patients and the healthcare team.
Essential functions include administering contrast material as needed, either through an existing IV line or by performing venipuncture.
The technologist recognizes and responds to hypersensitivity or allergic reactions.
All functions will be performed under the direct supervision of a physicist or dosimetrist.
Responsibilities also include assisting with inventory and supplies.
The technologist checks for accurate patient and chart identification, diagnosis, and treatment position.
Compiling pertinent clinical information related to lab or pathology is also required.
Instruction of new staff may be necessary.
Documentation must be accurate and complete.
The technologist explains procedures to patients and ensures their comfort, support, safety, and confidentiality.
Proper notification of the procedural nurse regarding doses of medications, radiation, and counts is essential.
On-call duties and variable shifts may be assigned to meet departmental needs.
Department-specific duties include the administration and withholding of contrast and treatments as appropriate.
Patient assessments for allergies are required.
Experience in Peripheral Vascular work, including venous central lines, tube changes, embolization work, and venous thrombectomy is necessary.
Experience with interventional neurology is preferred, as well as dialysis work, including AV fistulas and tunneled dialysis catheters.
The technologist is expected to perform tube access and changes for G-tubes, cholecystostomy, nephrostomy, biliary, abscess, and SPC.
Neuro experience, particularly with cerebral arterial/venous issues and kyphoplasty, is ideal.
The ability to retain information related to patient care and procedures is essential.
Effective communication and attention to detail are required.
Demonstrating compassion and caring when dealing with others is crucial.
Manual dexterity for handling small supplies is necessary.
The technologist must maintain a sterile field during procedures and be able to pull supplies as needed.
