Join a premier, high-volume tertiary medical center serving a rich and diverse urban patient population. As a Labor & Delivery Manager, you will oversee an expansive, high-acuity perinatal department supported by 24/7 dedicated Anesthesia, Laborist, and Level 4 Neonatology teams.

• Monthly Birth Volume: 550 – 600 deliveries / month
• Gestational Viability: Managing deliveries starting from 22–23 weeks gestation
• Unit Footprint:
• 30 Labor Beds across primary and secondary L&D suites
• 9-Bed OB Emergency Department (OB ED)
• 4 Dedicated OB Operating Rooms
• On-Site Level IV NICU: 77 beds
• Specialized Programs: Integrated Perinatal Addiction Recovery Program (for laboring patients and postpartum couplets), active Doula and Cultural Navigator programs, and TEAMBirth equity initiatives.
• Interprofessional Collaborative Teams: Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM), Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs), Attending OB/GYNs, Family Medicine, and Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS).

Position Summary

The Labor & Delivery Nurse Manager provides 24/7 clinical, operational, and strategic leadership for assigned unit sections within the L&D department. Working in close collaboration with the Senior L&D Manager and Clinical Supervisors, you will foster a culture of safety, clinical excellence, staff retention, and continuous quality improvement.

This role balances operational administration with active bedside visibility across all shifts to coach, develop, and advocate for front-line nursing teams.

Key Responsibilities

1. Operational & Clinical Leadership

• Direct daily clinical operations, unit workflow, and patient assignments across all shifts in accordance with regulatory and professional nursing standards.
• Maintain 24/7 accountability for patient care delivery, bed utilization, and emergency triage flow between the main L&D floor, OB ED, and surgical suites.
• Maintain clinical visibility across day, night, and weekend shifts to assess care delivery, coach nursing staff, and support bedside operations during surge volumes.

2. Quality, Safety & Evidence-Based Practice

• Partner with the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) and Perinatal Educator to implement evidence-based practice changes and clinical protocols.
• Monitor and drive unit-level quality metrics, with an emphasis on NTSV C-section rate reduction , maternal hemorrhage protocols, and patient safety indicators.
• Lead unit-based Quality Improvement (QI) committees and implement corrective action plans for identified operational bottlenecks.

3. Culture, DEI & Staff Engagement

• Champion Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives to support a diverse patient population and interprofessional care team (e.g., TEAMBirth, Cultural Navigator integration).
• Develop and execute targeted staff retention strategies, tracking turnover metrics and cultivating a collaborative, supportive workplace environment.
• Oversee recruitment, interviewing, and hiring for experienced L&D RNs, traveling staff, and nurse residents/fellows.
• Handle labor relations tasks, including hearing and adjusting up to step-two grievances as needed.

Qualifications & Requirements

Required:

• Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited program (OR an Associate Degree in Nursing [ADN] with a signed commitment to complete a BSN within 2 years of hire) .
• Licensure: Active Registered Nurse (RN) License for the State of Washington (or eligible to obtain prior to start).
• Certifications: Active Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers via the American Heart Association (AHA).
• Experience: Minimum of 3 years of recent clinical nursing experience in Inpatient Labor & Delivery .

Preferred:

• Education: Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN), Healthcare Administration (MHA), or related leadership field.
• Leadership Experience: 1+ years of formal first-line nursing management or supervisory experience (e.g., Assistant Nurse Manager, Supervisor, or high-volume Charge RN).
• Specialty Certification: Inpatient Obstetrics (RNC-OB), Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM), or Certified Nurse Executive (NE-BC).
