Cardiologist
Stryker Orthopaedics
POSITION SUMMARY
Interpret ultrasound imaging as provided via the telemedicine platform. This currently includes echocardiograms. Interpret thoracic radiographs in conjunction with comprehensive ultrasound examinations. Interpret and provide reporting for ECG cases, either as a stand‑alone service or in conjunction with comprehensive examinations. Provide anesthesia recommendations, when requested, as part of the evaluation. Provide follow up responses to questions provided by the clinics primarily with comprehensive evaluations. Use an Oncura provided work email to communicate with the Oncura Team and the clients. The expectation is a minimum of daily communication on scheduled shift days (ideally at the start and end of shift to ensure questions are addressed). Consistently meet or exceed company production goals which will be determined based on salary. Consistently communicate with the medical director any issues meeting daily goals or scheduling concerns, including any changes in availability during any given shift.GENERAL EXPECTATIONS
Diagnostic Interpretation Review comments, history, and attached diagnostic results prior to providing case findings and conclusions. Addressing this information in the final report also allows partners to understand that the information was reviewed and considered when receiving the report. Review of history includes information pertaining as well to concerns noted by the client/sonographer. General format includes review of echocardiogram findings, notes pertaining to diagnostics including blood pressure, thoracic radiographs (if applicable), followed by conclusions, and in some cases anesthesia, dietary/supplement recommendations, medication recommendations and recommended duration for follow‑up examinations. Review final report prior to submission for accuracy regarding patient name, species, and gender. Consultation & Recommendations Offer guidance on additional diagnostic tests and therapeutic plans based on imaging findings to the best of your ability incorporating current best ACVIM practices. Provide internal consultations, when requested, for second opinions, abnormal images collected via Global Fast or bicavitary ultrasound, or radiographs (specifically concerning cardiac questions). Communicate with Oncura staff and referring veterinarians to clarify results, recommend follow‑up steps, and address clinical questions in applicable cases. Questions may come directly from the portal via an automatically generated response (notify) or through customer service or telemedicine group email. Report any concerns with the request to telemedicine and the medical director. Timely Reporting & Communication Deliver high‑quality interpretations within agreed‑upon turnaround times, ensuring prompt support for veterinarians managing acute or chronic conditions. This is typically accomplished by reading the next case in order, whenever possible, to provide the most consistency with client turnaround time. Make every effort possible to complete cases in the time frame provided to the clients, or notify customer service and medical director of any potential delays so the clinic can be notified. Prioritize urgent cases over normal caseload, when applicable. True stat submissions are not currently part of the cardiology service. Cardiology will be notified of any urgent requests directly when the case is already assigned to them, or via the cardiology group in the event the case is not assigned. Document all findings in a clear, concise format that is easily understandable and actionable for general practice clinicians in the recommended formats (ie no bullet points as this formatting is not currently supported by OPD). Accept suggestions by the medical director for improvement including any feedback provided from the support team or clients about reporting. Notify the medical director and CSR team of specific case concerns that may affect the ability to read a case (ie if you are unable to read exotics, specific cases based on pending training, or have a non‑compete confined to a specific geographic area, unable to open documents or examination). Collaboration & Professional Development Work closely with Oncura Partners Diagnostics’ clinical team to maintain consistency and excellence in reporting standards. Stay current with emerging trends in veterinary diagnostic imaging and cardiology through continuing education and in accordance with board standard requirements. Review any company provided literature specific to continuing education. Participate in any daily group messaging for case review and colleague case collaboration (currently using Slack). Patient Advocacy Assist referring veterinarians in developing optimal treatment strategies, with the underlying goal of improved patient outcomes. Encourage best practices in imaging protocols and provide diagnostic feedback to clinics outside of the report when able to enhance education (comments section). Include recommendation for referral or additional imaging when indicated, based on best practice. Individual Growth and Training Willingness to participate in programs tested for efficacy (ie VetRec). Willingness to participate in company sponsored continuing education events. Participate when asked to provide educational materials, case review or interesting imaging, when applicable. Participate in the Cardiology Meetings every 3 months (roughly quarterly). If unable to attend based on other work obligations, it is the expectation that you will notify the medical director in advance so arrangements can be made to record or summarize the content for later review.POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Attendance/Punctuality – Is consistently at work and on time and for the duration of the previously agreed upon shift hours. Analytical – Exceptional diagnostic abilities with strong attention to detail. Adaptability – Adapts to changes in the work environment. Able to multi‑task effectively. Communication – Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate complex findings into actionable recommendations. Comfortable collaborating with cross‑functional teams, including veterinarians and support staff. Use Slack for communication updates daily on shifts and for urgent case notifications. Dependability – Self‑directed. Able to manage time effectively in a remote/independent setting. Quality – Commitment to high‑quality patient care and client‑centric approach. Quantity – Meets productivity standards while completing work in a timely manner.SKILLS & ABILITIES
