Duties

The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The General Dentistry dental officer shall be proficient in all aspects of general dentistry including the ability to perform selected specialty services. Specifically, the provider should possess the expertise and competency to perform the following:

• Conducts oral and radiographic examinations of the oral cavity and provide interpretation of imaging
• Reviews medical history and applies knowledge to patient management.
• Diagnoses pathological or irregular oral conditions.
• Performs treatment planning, including multi-step, complex plans with input from specialists as needed.
• Administers local anesthesia and nitrous oxide.
• Performs routine and complex restoration of teeth.
• Performs routine extractions and other surgical procedures within the scope of a general dentist.
• Performs prosthetic dentist to include immediate dentures, full and partial dentures, crowns and fixed bridge work.
• Performs routine dental implant restorations.
• Performs routine endodontic procedures on single and multi-canal teeth.
• Performs routine periodontal procedures.
