Nurse Extern General Medicine PRN

Mission Health, a leading comprehensive healthcare provider based in Asheville, NC, is seeking a compassionate and motivated Nurse Extern General Medicine PRN to join our Healthcare & Medical Services department. In this role, you will work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse to provide safe, patient-centered care to adult and geriatric patients on a general medicine unit. As a Nurse Extern, you will support the care team by assisting with basic nursing care, obtaining and documenting vital signs, performing hygiene and comfort measures, assisting with mobility and transport, and accurately documenting patient care activities in the electronic health record according to hospital policy. You will collaborate closely with RNs, providers, and interdisciplinary team members to observe patient conditions, promptly report changes, and contribute to a culture of safety and high-quality care.

This position is designed to complement your nursing education by providing hands-on clinical experience aligned with your academic learning. Under RN guidance, you will have opportunities to reinforce skills such as medication awareness (non-administration observational role), wound and line care observation, infection prevention practices, and evidence-based approaches to managing common medical conditions. You will learn to prioritize and organize patient assignments, practice effective communication with patients and families, and demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and respect in every interaction.

Candidates should be currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited nursing program, having completed at least the first semester of clinical coursework.
