As a Correctional Officer, you will be part of the Sheriff's Office and responsible for providing a safe and secure environment across multiple facilities related to the jail and courts. Recruitment Incentives Recruitment incentive between $1,000.00 and $5,000.00 paid over a 1-year period (half upon hire, remainder after 12‑month probation). Attend the Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) Exam. Candidate orientation guide available online. Physical Agility Exam and oral panel interviews. Upon meeting the BSCC score threshold, you will be invited to the PAT and oral interviews. A POST Personal History Statement must be provided at the interview. Background investigation and polygraph examination. Sheriff’s interview and conditional job offer pending completion of medical, psychological exams, drug and alcohol tests. Start date issued after all conditions met. Duties Receive arrestees, apply restraints (handcuffs, chains, leg irons) as appropriate. Escort and book arrestees; conduct warrant checks, acquire fingerprints and search personal property. Move inmates within the facility and transport them to outside locations such as hospitals, court sessions and other jails. Supervise pods, inspect cells, count inmates, search cells and inmates for contraband and weapons, and maintain facility security. Respond to inmates exhibiting violent or irrational behaviors. Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age. High school diploma or GED. Additional coursework in law enforcement or a related field, plus prior paid or volunteer law‑enforcement support experience, is desirable. For LevelII, supplemental college education and training in peace officer and correctional officer standards, plus one year of equivalent experience in a correctional officer I role. Licenses and Certificates LevelI: Compliance with all relevant pre‑ and post‑employment training requirements, including firearms and arrest & seizure certification and State Board of Corrections core training, within 12 months of employment. Must qualify and pass firearms range training quarterly to carry a semi‑automatic handgun. LevelII: Same training compliance required prior to employment.
