LITTLETON REGIONAL HEALTHCAREJOB TITLE: Patient Safety Aide - FLSA: ExemptNon-ExemptDEPARTMENT: Medical/Surgical - GRADE:SUMMARY AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Under the direction of the Clinical Director of Inpatient Services, the Patient Safety Aide provides patients with companionship and emotional support as required and supervises patients who are at risk of harming themselves or others. A successful Patient Safety Aide should be an excellent communicator, with a strong ability to listen to people who are often undergoing highly emotional, frightening experiences. Patient Safety Aides will be respectful and discreet.Essential FunctionsSupervising patients in your care without distractionAlerting nursing when patients need help or interventionProviding emotional support and companionship to patients and understanding when that may not be appropriateDetecting changes in the condition of patients and notifying primary nurseAssisting patients with basic requestsRefraining from performing medical procedures or any unauthorized actionsKeeping patient information confidentialAdhering to hospital policies and standardsProvides 60 hours of available time each calendar monthMust commit to 12-hour shiftsREPORTS TO: Clinical Director, Inpatient ServicesSUPERVISES:INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CONTACTS:QUALIFICATIONS:High school diploma or equivalentExceptional listening and communication skillsStrong observation abilityAbility to handle emotional distressing situationsProfessional appearanceAbility to act calmly and swiftly under pressureCompletion of verbal de-escalation training—assigned at hirePHYSICAL DEMANDS:Ability to stand, walk, and sit at bedside for prolonged periodsAbility to frequently bend, stoop, reach, and change positions quicklyAbility to lift, push, or pull up to 25 lbs independentlyAbility to implement trained AVADE Level 1 & 2 strategies, including:Maintaining safe positioning and awareness of personal spaceUsing appropriate stance, movement, and disengagement techniquesSafely redirecting patients without the use of forceAVADE Level 1 & 2 training will be provided on-site upon hire.
