Job Description
This role focuses on setting up and operating 5-axis CNC mills to produce high-quality components from a variety of metals in a clean, climate-controlled, and well-equipped manufacturing environment. You will perform regular setups, tool offsets, and G&M code edits at the machine while working with complex blueprints and varying lot sizes and cycle times.
Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate a 5-axis CNC mill, ensuring each setup is completed accurately and efficiently, typically performing one full setup per shift.
  • Perform tool offsets independently throughout the shift, averaging 30 to 50 offsets per day to maintain dimensional accuracy and part quality.
  • Read and interpret complex blueprints to determine machining operations, tolerances, and inspection requirements.
  • Run production on varying lot sizes, typically ranging from 40 to 80 pieces, while maintaining consistency and quality across all parts.
  • Manage parts with diverse cycle times, from short 3-minute cycles to long 8-hour cycles, with an average of approximately 10 minutes, adjusting workflow and priorities accordingly.
  • Work with a variety of materials, including stainless steel, titanium, aluminum, and inconel, adjusting machining parameters to suit each material.
  • Perform G&M code edits on existing programs directly at the machine to optimize performance, correct issues, and ensure parts meet specifications.
  • Use GD&T principles to verify that machined parts meet geometric and dimensional requirements.
  • Perform tool changes and verify that tooling is correctly installed, maintained, and appropriate for the job.
  • Monitor machine performance and part quality throughout the run, making adjustments as needed to maintain tight tolerances and surface finishes.
  • Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot machining challenges and continuously improve processes.
  • Follow all shop safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience with GD&T and its application in machining and inspection.
  • Proficiency with tool changes and basic machine adjustments on CNC mills.
  • Ability to work with varying lot sizes and cycle times while maintaining high quality and productivity.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to hold tight tolerances on complex parts.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working with stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, or inconel.
  • Experience working with Mazak CNC machines and Mazatrol controls.
  • Familiarity with other CNC platforms such as Haas and Okuma.
  • Comfort working with newer, high-technology CNC equipment in a production environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make effective on-the-fly adjustments at the machine.
