Material Handler

The Material Handler operates a sit-down forklift in a medium-sized distribution center to perform order picking, loading, unloading, and shipping procedures. This role supports daily warehouse operations by accurately handling inventory and preparing products for shipment in a laid-back, team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

• Operate a sit-down forklift safely and efficiently to move, load, and unload materials throughout the distribution center.
• Perform order picking using RF scanners and other warehouse tools to accurately select and stage products for shipment.
• Handle incoming and outgoing shipments, including receiving, verifying, and preparing orders for dispatch.
• Use pallet jacks and other material handling equipment to move pallets and products as required.
• Follow established shipping and receiving procedures to ensure accuracy and on-time processing of orders.
• Maintain accurate inventory by properly labeling, scanning, and storing materials in designated locations.
• Support general warehouse operations, including organizing work areas, consolidating pallets, and keeping aisles clear.
• Lift and move materials up to 50 lbs as part of daily loading, unloading, and picking activities.
• Adhere to all safety guidelines and operational standards while working in the distribution center.
• Collaborate with a small team in a self-managed environment to meet productivity and quality goals.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience operating a sit-down forklift in a warehouse or distribution center environment.
• Hands-on experience with material handling tasks, including loading, unloading, and moving pallets.
• Ability to perform shipping and receiving procedures accurately and efficiently.
• Proficiency using RF scanners for order picking and inventory tracking.
• Experience working with pallet jacks and other standard warehouse equipment.
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.
• Reliable work habits and ability to follow established warehouse processes and safety protocols.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience in a mid-size distribution center or similar warehouse setting.
• Familiarity with order picking workflows and inventory control practices.
• Comfort working in a self-managed, small-team environment.
• Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate picking, scanning, and shipping.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining effective communication with team members.

Work Environment

This role is based in a mid-size distribution center with a small, close-knit team. You will work primarily on-site operating sit-down forklifts, pallet jacks, and RF scanners while performing picking, loading, unloading, and shipping activities. The standard shift runs from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, offering consistent daytime hours in a relaxed but safety-focused warehouse environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kansas City, KS 66111.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
