Senior Safety Specialist Location: New England | Primarily Rhode Island and Massachusetts, including Cape Cod and the Islands Travel: Frequent travel to project sites required Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience Position Overview TRAC Builders is seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Senior Safety Specialist with 5+ years of construction safety experience to join our team and support projects throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts, including Cape Cod and the Islands. Reporting to the Director of Safety, the Senior Safety Specialist serves as a key safety resource for TRAC Builders, working closely with the Director of Safety, project management teams, Superintendents, field personnel, subcontractors, and company leadership to promote and maintain safe working environments across all company operations. This position supports the Director of Safety in the implementation and continuous improvement of TRAC Builders’ company-wide safety program while providing a consistent and visible safety presence across active jobsites. The Senior Safety Specialist is responsible for conducting comprehensive jobsite safety inspections, identifying and evaluating potential hazards, supporting regulatory compliance, investigating incidents, facilitating safety training, and assisting project teams with the development and implementation of project-specific safety plans and procedures. Serving as an extension of the Director of Safety in the field, the Senior Safety Specialist will communicate jobsite observations, trends, incidents, and emerging risks and work collaboratively with field and project leadership to implement appropriate corrective and preventive measures. The successful candidate will bring a strong working knowledge of construction operations and applicable safety regulations, excellent communication and training skills, sound professional judgment, and a proactive approach to risk identification and prevention. This individual will serve as a visible safety leader throughout the organization and help foster a culture in which safety, accountability, and continuous improvement are shared responsibilities. This position requires frequent travel to active construction sites throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts, including Cape Cod and the Islands. Duties & Responsibilities Safety Department Support & Leadership Report directly to and work closely with the Director of Safety to support the implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of TRAC Builders’ company-wide safety program. Serve as an extension of the Director of Safety in the field, providing a consistent safety presence across active projects and helping ensure company safety expectations are effectively communicated and implemented. Serve as a safety resource and liaison for TRAC Builders’ project teams, field personnel, subcontractors, and company leadership. Maintain regular communication with the Director of Safety regarding jobsite conditions, inspection findings, incidents, corrective actions, training needs, recurring concerns, and emerging safety risks. Assist the Director of Safety with evaluating safety trends, observations, incidents, and near misses to identify opportunities for proactive risk reduction and company-wide improvement. Support the Director of Safety in developing, updating, and implementing company safety policies, procedures, programs, training initiatives, forms, and other safety resources. Assist the Director of Safety with special initiatives, regulatory compliance efforts, safety meetings, audits, and other department priorities as needed. Provide guidance and technical support to project and field teams regarding construction safety requirements and safe work practices. Promote accountability while approaching safety concerns professionally, constructively, and consistently. Champion continuous improvement and help strengthen TRAC Builders’ safety culture across all levels of the organization. Jobsite Safety & Risk Management Conduct regular and comprehensive safety inspections of active construction sites, company facilities, shops, and other work locations to evaluate compliance with company policies, project requirements, OSHA regulations, and applicable construction safety standards. Identify existing and potential workplace hazards and work collaboratively with project and field leadership to develop and implement appropriate corrective and preventive measures. Document safety inspections, observations, deficiencies, corrective actions, and follow-up activities in accordance with company procedures. Monitor corrective actions to ensure identified safety concerns are appropriately and promptly resolved. Conduct risk assessments of construction sites, shop operations, equipment, work activities, and planned construction operations to identify hazards and recommend appropriate controls. Evaluate subcontractor and contractor work practices, equipment, tools, and operations for compliance with applicable safety requirements and project expectations. Review planned construction activities, means and methods, sequencing, and logistics from a safety and risk-management perspective. Work collaboratively with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, and other field leadership to integrate safety considerations into daily project planning and execution. Review Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), pre-task plans, and other safety documentation and provide guidance regarding appropriate hazard controls. Provide guidance regarding OSHA requirements, company safety policies, safe work practices, PPE, fall protection, scaffolding, equipment operation, and other construction-related safety matters. Promote proper use of personal protective equipment and compliance with established safety procedures across project sites. Support and reinforce stop-work authority when unsafe conditions or activities present an immediate risk to employees, subcontractors, the public, or project operations. Conduct and support investigations of safety incidents, injuries, near misses, property damage, and other applicable events. Gather and document relevant information following incidents, identify contributing factors and root causes, and prepare associated reports and documentation. Work with the Director of Safety, project teams, and company leadership to develop corrective actions following incidents and communicate lessons learned to help prevent recurrence. Assist with applicable regulatory reporting and recordkeeping requirements. Track corrective actions resulting from incidents and investigations and follow up with appropriate personnel to ensure completion. Analyze safety observations, incidents, near misses, and other relevant information to identify trends and opportunities for proactive risk reduction. Preconstruction & Project Safety Planning Participate in preconstruction and pre-job planning to identify project-specific risks and assist teams with establishing appropriate safety strategies before work begins. Assist in the development, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of project-specific health and safety plans, emergency action plans, and other required safety documentation. Collaborate with project teams to identify safety considerations related to site logistics, construction sequencing, equipment, access, public protection, subcontractor activities, and planned means and methods. Assist project teams with evaluating upcoming high-risk activities and developing appropriate controls before work begins. Support project startup and mobilization activities to help ensure appropriate safety plans, procedures, documentation, equipment, and resources are in place. Training, Documentation & Compliance Facilitate safety orientations, toolbox talks, meetings, training programs, and other safety-related educational initiatives as required. Assist the Director of Safety in identifying training needs throughout the organization and coordinate or deliver appropriate safety training. Maintain accurate and current records of employee safety training, certifications, forms, inspections, incidents, corrective actions, and other required safety documentation. Assist with monitoring employee and field personnel safety certifications and training requirements. Maintain awareness of applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations and industry best practices and assist with incorporating relevant requirements into company safety programs and procedures. Support internal and external safety audits, inspections, and compliance activities as required. Maintain clear and timely communication with the Director of Safety, project teams, and company leadership regarding safety observations, recurring concerns, incidents, corrective actions, and emerging risks. Safety Culture & Professional Representation Serve as a visible and approachable safety presence in the field, encouraging employees and subcontractors to actively participate in maintaining safe jobsites. Build effective working relationships with employees, subcontractors, clients, consultants, regulatory representatives, and other project stakeholders. Promote a proactive approach to safety by encouraging field personnel to identify hazards, communicate concerns, and participate in developing practical solutions. Reinforce the expectation that safety is a shared responsibility across all levels of the organization. Represent TRAC Builders professionally during jobsite visits, inspections, meetings, training sessions, and interactions with clients, subcontractors, regulatory agencies, and other project stakeholders. Attend company and industry events, including meetings, trainings, workshops, and professional development activities as required. Travel frequently to TRAC Builders project sites and company locations throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts, including Cape Cod and the Islands. Perform other related duties as assigned or needed. Education & Experience Minimum of 5 years of construction safety experience in a Safety Specialist, Safety Coordinator, Safety Manager, or comparable construction safety role. Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Construction Management, or a related field preferred. Strong working knowledge of OSHA construction standards, applicable safety regulations, and construction-industry safety best practices. Demonstrated experience conducting construction jobsite safety inspections, identifying hazards, recommending corrective actions, and following issues through resolution. Experience conducting or participating in incident investigations, root-cause analysis, corrective-action development, and safety reporting. Strong operational understanding of commercial construction activities, means and methods, building trades, equipment, sequencing, and active jobsite conditions. Experience developing, reviewing, or implementing project-specific safety plans, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), pre-task plans, emergency action plans, and related safety documentation. Experience developing and/or facilitating safety training for field personnel preferred. Ability to effectively communicate safety requirements and corrective actions to employees, subcontractors, field leadership, project management, and company leadership. Excellent written and verbal communication, documentation, organization, training, and interpersonal skills. Strong observational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify potential risks and recommend practical solutions. Ability and willingness to travel frequently to active construction sites throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts, including Cape Cod and the Islands Strong computer skills and ability to maintain accurate digital safety records, reports, training documentation, and other required information. OSHA 500 certification preferred. Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or similar professional safety certification preferred. Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record required.
