About the Role

As a Respiratory Therapist , you will provide expert cardiopulmonary care to patients across a variety of settings—from routine diagnostic procedures to complex critical care interventions. Working closely with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams, you'll help ensure patients receive safe, evidence-based respiratory care while contributing to outstanding clinical outcomes.

What you'll Do

  • Provides respiratory care to include diagnostic testing, oxygen and medication delivery, bronchial hygiene, arterial/capillary blood gas draw and analysis, advanced airway, and life support.
  • Patient assessment including the ability to monitor labs, hemodynamics, and radiology findings. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates individual patient care appropriate to the age of the patients.
  • Calibrates, cleans, sets up, maintains, and troubleshoots all patient related equipment and instruments. Assembles and stores cleaned equipment.
  • Participates in in-house educational in-services inter and intradepartmental as well as attending outside seminars and workshops, as requested by Manager.
  • Participates in various intermittent department tasks including, but not limited to, audits, quality assurance, statistical record keeping, patient charting and other special projects as specified by Manager.
  • May act as a member of trauma, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and rapid response teams.
  • Responsible for ventilator and Non-invasive Positive Pressure Ventilation (NPPV) management including ensuring safe, evidence-based setting with appropriate changes.
  • May become trained as a core therapist in an ICU or diagnostics area (e.g., PFT or Sleep Lab) to meet department needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
What You'll Bring
  • Accredited Program Required: Respiratory Care Program 2-year AMA-approved Respiratory Care Program or approved alternative education as outlined in the state regulatory requirements and
  • Required: Must pass the NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist exam within 6 months of hire
  • Minimum of 2 years Preferred: Experience in acute care as a Respiratory Therapist and
  • Minimum of 1 year Preferred: Experience in a pulmonary function lab and
  • Preferred: Experience in ICU, Pediatrics, or Obstetrics
  • Required: within 6 months Registered Respiratory Therapist and
  • PALS, ACLS and BLS are all required upon hire.
  • NRP certifications must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • ACLS required for staff conducting stress tests.

Skills

  • Proficient with MS Office applications. (Required)
  • Must be able to set up, operate, and troubleshoot all respiratory or pulmonary function related equipment, as applicable, in a quick and efficient manner. (Required)
  • Must be able to quickly assess acute, critical care situations and respond with a decisive and appropriate course of action. (Required)
  • Good time management skills. (Required)

Working Conditions

Lifting

  • Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
  • Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
  • Ability to move around area with occasional sitting.
  • Lifting (non-patient)/carrying occasionally up to 25 lbs.
  • Push/Pull: 1-25 lbs. of force occasionally (i.e., moving equipment).
  • Stooping/ bending/ squatting/ kneeling occasionally.

Environmental Conditions

  • Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.
  • Time spent on site in medical/hospital setting or in office environment.

Mental/Visual

  • Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
