Job Details Employment Status: Full time Shift: Evening/Night (United States of America) Facility: 1906 Belleview Ave SE - Roanoke Requisition Number: R149931 Position: RN - Medical Step Down Unit (Open) Responsibilities Deliver the best in care and customer service, demonstrating respect, dignity, kindness and empathy with patients, families, visitors, and colleagues. Assume primary accountability for nursing coordination and individualized care of patients of all ages. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care to achieve optimum outcomes. Complete age‑specific admission and ongoing assessments, document them, and use them to develop a plan of care. Collaborate with the healthcare team, patients, and families to develop, implement, and evaluate an age‑specific interdisciplinary plan of care. Revise the plan according to changes in patient status. Accurately administer and document treatments and medications using automated computer systems, including EPIC. Identify patient/family educational needs, incorporate them into the plan of care, implement and document appropriately. Contribute to performance‑improvement activities and act as a patient advocate. Provide evidence‑based patient care service and performance improvement, including leadership or education pathways when applicable. Plan strategies to reduce length of stay, turnaround time, and resource consumption while improving patient outcomes. Serve as a role model for clinical practice for coworkers, students, and physicians. Manage resources, establish priorities, and modify the environment to meet patient care needs. Complete manager/director pre‑determined projects within the specified timeframe and guidelines. Use problem‑solving methods to facilitate resolution of patient and personnel situations in the work area. Take an active role in the orientation of new employees and provide feedback to staff. Participate in unit, hospital, and system activities that facilitate staff participation and decision‑making. Assist with education activities for the unit/department. Qualifications Graduate of a professional nursing school at an accredited college or graduate of an approved program eligible to sit for the VA licensure exam. Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in Virginia or eligible to obtain Virginia RN licensure. BLS‑HCP required; may be required to obtain or maintain BLS, ACLS, PALS, or NRP based on the work unit. Computer skills required for electronic medical records (EPIC).
