POSITION SUMMARY:

The CNA Transportation Aide / Support Staffing Coordinator provides safe transportation and transfer assistance for residents to and from appointments and outings in accordance with the interdisciplinary care plan, facility policy, and the direction of a licensed nurse, while promoting each resident’s quality of life, autonomy, and dignity. This role also serves as a support scheduler, assisting the primary nursing staffing coordinator with daily shift scheduling as needed.

POSITION DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The following are the primary duties and essential functions of this position. This list is not exhaustive, and other duties may be required and assigned. Essential functions include:

• Transport and assist residents safely to and from appointments and outings at the direction of the Transportation Coordinator, and assist on nursing units when not transporting.

• Provide direct resident care support , including bathing, grooming, dressing, ambulation, toileting, transfers, and use of care equipment, as assigned.

• Promote resident dignity and autonomy , communicating with caring and respect and supporting residents’ decision-making whenever possible and appropriate.

• Exercise sound judgment , making prompt, accurate decisions regarding resident care and emergencies, and reporting observations and information to the nurse in charge.

• Follow safety and infection control policies , observing residents and surroundings, removing potential hazards, and documenting care provided.

• Maintain confidentiality of resident and facility information, and adhere to facility policies and procedures.

• Work collaboratively as part of the unit team , including serving on facility committees and work teams as assigned.

• Serve as a backup scheduler for the nursing department , engaging team members on the nursing units by phone and through digital scheduling systems to fill staffing vacancies.

• Coordinate with temporary staffing agencies to fill vacant scheduling needs within budget approval levels, maintaining related files and databases.

• Update and maintain the digital scheduling software with scheduling requirements and assigned staff.

• Work with nursing leadership to ensure compliance with the approved schedule and budget.

• Use resources responsibly with consideration to cost, and assist with other scheduling duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Educational Requirements and Experience:

• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in accordance with Massachusetts state regulations — required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Good judgment and decision-making, with the ability to make prompt, accurate decisions regarding resident care.

• Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, and team members, with patience, tact, and a willingness to work as part of a team.

• Reliability, including reporting to work as scheduled and completing assignments in accordance with facility policy.

• Ability to understand and operate mechanical lifts (Hoyer, Sara, stand aid).

• Proficiency with AOD, PointClickCare (PCC), Word, and Excel.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTABILITY / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position is performed primarily on the nursing units and in resident care areas, with frequent walking and standing, use of hands for resident care and transfers, and occasional lifting of up to 35 pounds; may also be exposed to the elements while transporting residents. There is continuous exposure to residents who may be ill, confused, irritable, or irrational, and possible exposure to unpleasant odors, chemicals identified in the SDS Manual, infections, diseases, and bloodborne pathogens, and hostile or emotionally upset family members, personnel, or visitors. May work beyond normal hours, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
