CORRECTIONAL COUNSELOR II (SUPERVISOR)

Job Description and Duties Under the general direction of the Captain, AI, the Correctional Counselor II (CC II) Supervisor has the overall responsibility of managing incarcerated person cases to include establishing and monitoring on‑going programming needs for incarcerated persons via recommendations and approved decisions of the Institutional Classification Committee (ICC). The CC II interviews incarcerated persons and evaluates their casework needs; counsels incarcerated persons on personal, institutional, and family concerns; collects, evaluates and records documentation relevant to the need for incarcerated persons placement; records ICC actions as well as behavioral data on incarcerated persons, and makes recommendations pertinent to classification; makes recommendations on changes in classification assignments; schedules cases for classification committee for a variety of reasons not limited to: Administrative Segregation Unit (ASU) Initial/Subsequent Reviews, ASU Extensions, Transfers, Security Housing Unit (SHU) Term Assessments, and Departmental Review Board (DRB). The supervisor also supervises the Correctional Counselor I’s and reviews the work performance of subordinate CC I’s within his/her area of responsibility. This is a 12‑month limited‑term position that may be extended to 24 months, with the possibility of becoming permanent. They must possess knowledge of prison administration, personnel management, inmate classification and placement, counseling and guidance methods, casework theory, and group dynamics. They should also demonstrate the ability to plan, organize, and direct the work of others; assess and interpret test results; coordinate work across disciplines; manage high‑volume caseloads under pressure; effectively communicate with inmates and staff; and support the Department’s affirmative action and labor‑management objectives.
