Job Title: Labor and Delivery Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Two years experience in Labor and Delivery required License: Current RN license in state of practice required Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course required Must-Have: - Associate Degree (A.S.) or equivalent required - Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred Description: The Labor and Delivery Nurse is responsible for planning and providing nursing care to patients and their families during the antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods. This includes managing emergency situations and circulating for C-Sections. The nurse supervises and delegates care responsibilities to ancillary personnel within their scope of practice. Essential duties include performing physical and psychosocial assessments of patients. Demonstrating knowledge and consideration of age and cultural differences is important, particularly in sensitive situations. Initiating a multidisciplinary, goal-oriented care plan for each patient in collaboration with the healthcare team is required. The nurse must demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment in managing perinatal emergencies. This includes handling scenarios such as crash C-sections, precipitous deliveries, and shoulder dystocia. Competence in assessing fetal and maternal well-being, amniotic fluid status, and recognizing abnormalities is expected. Effective pain management for the laboring patient is part of the role. Supporting and implementing alternative pain control methods when appropriate is essential. The nurse is competent in assisting with epidural catheter placement and monitoring patient's status during and after administration. Educating patients and families throughout the perinatal and postpartum periods using appropriate methods is crucial. Consistent and timely documentation of all nursing care provided is required. This includes evaluation of patient responses to medications, treatments, and procedures. The nurse should perform necessary unit-specific safety and quality control checks. Other job-related duties as assigned will be part of the position. This role prioritizes the safety and well-being of patients and associates. All associates must receive required vaccinations annually, with potential medical and religious exemptions available. Participation in E-Verify is a requirement for employment.
