Endoscopy Technician I

The Endoscopy Technician I has either no experience in endoscopy or is a novice in the endoscopy setting. The technician assists the nurses and physicians in providing care for the endoscopy patient. They must complete competencies for all basic GI procedures and scope reprocessing. The technician also supports the area with duties that include preparation of the procedure room and sterile field to ensure a safe patient care environment. This includes gathering all required instruments and supplies and serving as an endoscopy procedure assistant. The job also includes transportation of patients and equipment, stocking/maintaining supplies, and care and maintenance of endoscopes and their accessories. They must have a strong understanding of infection control in the GI setting.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

• Proficiency in all general endoscope procedures, equipment, and supplies is required, including cleaning endoscopes and accessories.
• Successfully fulfills all essential functions of the GI Lab Technician role.
• Prepares for scheduled, emergent, urgent, and add-on endoscopic procedures by ensuring necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies are ready and set up for use.
• Has the skill to expedite and organize the preparation for unexpected events, giving direction and support to less experienced team members.
• Functions independently within the scope of the position.
• Anticipates the needs of the physician and RN during procedures, and anticipates the needs of the department.
• Must be proficient in operating all equipment in GI and provide technical assistance during procedures by troubleshooting equipment as needed and manipulating various pieces of equipment.
• Required to take emergency call after normal operating hours and weekends as per department needs.
• Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of infection control principles and standards.
• Takes a proactive role in quality improvement monitoring and improvement plans.
