HVAC Mechanic II Job No: 539518 Work Type: Full Time Location: Main Campus (Gainesville, FL) Categories: Facilities Operations/Skilled Trades, Veteran's Preference Eligible Department: 63571000 - FS-OPER-HVAC Job Description Install, operate, repair, and preventively maintain pneumatic/electric air conditioning (A/C) equipment. Service and refurbish all types of A/C and refrigeration equipment, including control systems that are connected directly to, and operate, field devices. Troubleshoot field-connected devices—including unitary controllers, variable air volume (VAV) controllers, electronic and pneumatic thermostats, and control programs related to field devices operating HVAC equipment—using network computers. Repair or replace valves, piping, thermostats, dampers, grills, turning vanes, motors, belts, and controls. Preventively maintain HVAC and refrigeration equipment. Balance HVAC systems. Recharge and recover refrigerants in A/C systems. Perform and support HVAC construction projects and departmental jobs. Mentor and train lower‑level technicians. Enter maintenance data via the work order system for work requests (WR) and time. Maintain the EPA Refrigerant Recovery Journal. Provide support services to other trades as required for the timely and efficient repair of buildings and/or equipment. Initiate purchases of materials and parts used for repairs. Clean and maintain shop, work areas, and personal equipment. Operate state/UF vehicle(s). Valid Florida driver license required. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor. Qualifications High school diploma (or equivalent) and completion of two years of an HVAC apprenticeship program or two years of appropriate experience; vocational/technical training may substitute. Three years of experience. Valid Florida driver license. EPA Refrigerant Recovery Type II certification. Knowledge of modern HVAC materials and techniques. Working knowledge of blueprints and schematic drawings. Skilled in troubleshooting pneumatic and electric/digital devices related to refrigeration and A/C equipment. Skilled in using normal and up-to-date equipment and materials. Skilled in soldering refrigerant and water piping/tubing. Skilled in recovering refrigerant. Ability to follow established safety practices and procedures. Ability to read service requests and work requests. Physical requirements include walking to customer locations, lifting up to 100 pounds with assistance, working in attics, basements, crawl spaces, confined areas, wearing appropriate safety equipment, climbing, reaching above shoulder height, kneeling, bending repeatedly, and working in confined areas that may contain animals. Environmental Compliance EPA Refrigerant Recovery Type II certification required. Schedule & Salary Schedule may vary depending on location. Total hours per week: 40. Emergency work, swing shift/on‑call/standby as required. Position considered Essential Personnel. Salary: $21.95 per hour. Training Must participate in HVAC FaSTPath Program and meet requirements to progress to HVAC Levels III and IV. Training will be provided.
