Hybrid Psychiatric Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Boston, MA 02118
Job Type: Contract to hire
Start Date: November 30, 2026
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM or 7:00 AM-4:00 PM
Work Arrangement: Hybrid - 3 days onsite and 2 days remote; Flexibility may be required to accommodate departmental scheduling and patient care needs.
Pay Rate: $44.00-$64.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience

Position Overview

We're seeking an experienced Behavioral Health Psychiatric Registered Nurse (RN) to support psychiatric providers with patient triage, medication management, crisis assessment, and care coordination.

This hybrid position focuses on managing patient communications, triaging provider messages, processing medication refill requests, and ensuring timely follow-up on patient concerns. The RN will collaborate closely with psychiatric providers and multidisciplinary teams across outpatient psychiatry and integrated primary care settings.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and triage psychiatric provider messages, including patient phone calls, MyChart messages, medication refill requests, and laboratory follow-ups.
• Assess psychiatric symptoms, prioritize urgent concerns, and escalate clinical or safety issues to the appropriate providers.
• Support crisis management, suicide risk assessment, and patient safety interventions, including Section 12 procedures as appropriate.
• Review and process medication refill requests according to established protocols.
• Educate patients on psychiatric medications, potential side effects, treatment plans, and medication adherence.
• Provide patient support and follow-up through telephone calls and electronic patient portals.
• Document patient interactions, clinical assessments, and follow-up activities accurately in EPIC or other electronic health record systems.
• Coordinate care with psychiatric providers, pharmacies, primary care providers, and behavioral health teams.
• Assist with referrals, prior authorizations, and ongoing care coordination.
• Review patient information and monitor treatment plans to support continuity of care.
• Maintain knowledge of psychiatric medications and basic psychopharmacology.
• Participate in team huddles, multidisciplinary care planning, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Support coordinated psychiatric care across outpatient, integrated primary care, and telehealth settings.

Required Qualifications

• Current, active Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications.
• Minimum of 1 year of psychiatric experience .
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Psychiatric-Mental Health Board Certification (PMH-BC).
• Experience with EPIC electronic health records.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish.
• Previous experience in substance use treatment clinics, detox facilities, or addiction medicine.
• Experience with telehealth, patient portal messaging, and remote patient support.
• Familiarity with trauma-informed care, long-acting injectable medications, and de-escalation techniques.
• Experience in community health, emergency care, ambulatory care, or psychiatric facilities.
