Lead Laboratory Technician

Lead Laboratory Technician The City of Hutchinson is seeking a Lead Laboratory Technician to support critical wastewater and water quality operations. This position is responsible for collecting and tracking samples, performing laboratory testing and certified analysis, supporting quality assurance and quality control, maintaining records, training staff, and ensuring compliance with wastewater and water quality standards. Responsibilities Collect samples from wastewater, wells, streams, manholes, and other locations. Perform laboratory testing and process control analysis. Support QA/QC functions and maintain compliance records. Maintain lab equipment and supplies. Train new technicians and assist with procedures and process improvements. Support audits, inspections, and departmental operations as needed. Minimum Qualifications Three years of directly related laboratory experience. Associate degree in biology, chemistry, or related field. Valid Kansas driver’s license. Ability to obtain a Class II Wastewater Laboratory Technician Certification within two years of employment. Knowledge of Kansas Water and Wastewater Operator Certification and Kansas Water Laboratory Analyst Certification is helpful but not required. Work Environment This role includes both laboratory and field work and involves exposure to chemicals, raw sewage samples, outdoor conditions, and other adverse working environments. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required. Required Certifications Class II Wastewater Laboratory Technician Certification (to be obtained within two years). Valid Kansas driver’s license. Knowledge of Kansas Water and Wastewater Operator Certification and Kansas Water Laboratory Analyst Certification is desirable.
