Description This role offers a unique opportunity to partner directly with U.S. Coast Guard C5ISC leadership to modernize enterprise and solution architecture practices - guiding the evolution from legacy, document-centricDoDAFandDoDAFMeta-Model (DM2) architectures to modern Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approaches aligned to the Unified Architecture Framework (UAF).The Architect provides senior technical leadership whileremaininghands-on in the development and maturation of "As-Is" and "To-Be" Solution Architectures, ensuring alignment with U.S. Coast Guard Enterprise Architecture, Target Architecture, and engineering standards. Architecture work is performed using disciplined, repeatable methodologies thatmaintaincompliance with currentDoDAFand DM2 requirements while deliberately introducing and scaling MBSE practices in coordination with Government stakeholders and the C5ISC System Engineering Life Cycle (SELC). Essential Functions & Duties:
- Serve as a senior, hands-on Enterprise / Solution Architect partnering directly with U.S. Coast Guard C5ISC leadership to modernize architecture practices.
- Lead and actively execute the development, evolution, and review of "As-Is" and "To-Be" architectures across legacy DoDAF/DM2 and emerging UAF/MBSE implementations.
- Guide and support the transition from document-centric DoDAFarchitectures to UAF-aligned MBSE practices, including transition planning, pilot efforts, and phased adoption.
- Develop, review, and refine architectural models, views, and artifacts, ensuring technical rigor, traceability, and alignment with mission, enterprise, and engineering objectives.
- Act as a trusted technical advisor to USCG leadership, supporting architectural decision-making, trade studies, and alignment across programs and product lines.
- Collaborate closely with system engineers, engineering teams, and stakeholders to integrate architecture with requirements, design, and delivery activities.
- Facilitate executive-level and technical working sessions to resolve architectural issues, align stakeholders, and drive architectural outcomes.
- Provide architectural mentorship and technical guidance to architects and engineers supporting delivery teams.
- Ensure architectural products are integrated, governed, and baselined in accordance withCG Enterprise Architecture, SELC, and configuration management requirements.
- 8+ years of professional experience as an Enterprise Architect and/or Solution Architect supporting complex enterprise or mission systems.
- 3+ years of experience developing and maintaining"As-Is" and "To-Be" Enterprise and Solution Architectures in a U.S. Government, DoD, DHS, or similarly regulated enterprise environment.
- 2+ years of experience serving in a senior or lead Enterprise/Solution Architect role, providing architectural direction while remaininghands-on in the development of architecture models and artifacts.
- 2+ years of experience developing, governing, and maintaining DoDAF- andDoDAFMeta-Model (DM2)-compliant architectures using System Architect as the authoritative system of record, including configuration management and reporting.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience contributing to the development and analysis of UAF- and MBSE-aligned architectures using SysMLand/or OOSEM, supported by enterprise and systems modeling tools (e.g., Cameo Systems Modeler) to develop, review, and analyze model-based architectural artifacts.
- Proven ability to engage directly with Government leadership and senior stakeholders, providingarchitectural insight, decision support, and technical recommendations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to author, review, and present enterprise and solution architecture products to technical and executive audiences.
- Experience supporting or leading architectureframeworkand tooling transitions, such as evolving from document-centricDoDAFimplementations toward UAF-aligned MBSE approaches.
- Experience mentoring or guiding architects and engineers through adoption of MBSE practices, new tools, or architectural standards.
- Experience supporting pilot, proof-of-concept, or phased adoption efforts for new architecture methods or tooling.
- Prior experience supporting large-scale federal modernization initiatives or multi-program architecture environments.
- Ability to obtain andmaintaina DHS Public Trust suitability determination (Moderate Risk).
- Ability to obtain andmaintainaccess to U.S. Coast Guard networks and systems, including completion of required security, privacy, and cybersecurity training.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to CONUS Government sites to support mission and stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to work on-site or in secure Government environmentsasneeded.
- Proficiencywith standard office productivity tools (e.g.,Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Adobe Acrobat).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
