Dean of the College of Public Health
The Dean of the College of Public Health (COPH) serves as the chief executive and administrative leader reporting directly to the Provost. The Dean participates in the Chancellor's Cabinet and holds overarching responsibility for all aspects of the college, including strategic planning, quality assurance, faculty and student recruitment, resource development, financial management, and external representation. The Dean is responsible for providing exemplary academic, administrative, research, and fiscal leadership, ensuring operational excellence in the college. This includes oversight of academic programs, faculty, students, support staff, facilities, budgets, fundraising efforts, alumni engagement, and partnerships with the University, community stakeholders, and external organizations.
Responsibilities:
- Provide visionary guidance to shape the future of the college through strategic planning and innovation.
- Recruit, hire, and retain quality faculty and staff who are prepared to meet the college's public health education, research, and service missions.
- Support, enhance, and promote faculty professional advancement and productivity.
- Build on a foundation of academic excellence through innovative student recruitment strategies, curriculum development, teaching excellence, program initiatives, and advocacy for career opportunities in public health.
- Manage the financial and human resources of the College efficiently and effectively.
- Cultivate an environment where junior faculty and students receive the mentorship needed to maximize their potential.
- Foster and expand the college's relationship with alumni, corporations, and other private-sector entities, nonprofit organizations, and non-governmental organizations.
- Strengthen partnerships and collaborations across UAMS colleges, state institutions, the Arkansas Department of Health, clinical partners, community organizations, and non-profits operating in healthcare and public health spheres, as well as other higher education entities, to support the college's broader mission, research, and recruitment.
- Lead with a clear vision for fundraising by collaborating with Institutional Advancement to secure funding and develop and implement funded initiatives.
- Engage with policymakers, legislators, and other stakeholders to advocate for public health initiatives, and demonstrate effective communication skills to convey the college's work to diverse audiences, including the public, media, medical community, and partners.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have earned a doctoral degree from an accredited college or university and will be a scholar and leader in public health with a nationally recognized reputation, including demonstrated potential for collaborative, credible administrative leadership and a clear commitment to public health scholarship, education, and service. In addition to these required qualifications, preferred qualifications include:
- An exceptional record of distinguished scholarly accomplishment in a field related to the mission of the college. A demonstrated record of administrative experience at a complex institution of higher education and/or in the public sector, with progressively responsible leadership positions.
- An entrepreneurial and creative outlook that inspires and realizes the ambitions of the faculty to maintain and strengthen the college's national prominence.
- Proven success in fundraising with a clear vision for engaging foundations, corporations, and individuals.
- Sound judgment, creative strategic thinking, and impeccable integrity.
Salary Information:
Commensurate with education and experience
