Job Mission: To develop healthy self-esteem and social competency in children and to build collaborative relationships among children, families, staff, mental health professionals and the larger community. To enhance awareness and understanding of mental wellness and how mental health information and services contribute to the wellness of all children and families.

Performance Standards:

• Support, encourage, and promote primary caregivers/parents participation in any child's mental health services.
• Complete classroom observations and work with staff on behavioral screening.
• Conduct appropriate parent/staff trainings.
• Team with Early Childhood staff to design classroom interventions to promote emotional strengths and strong relationships, including social skill building.
• Formally assess, with written parental consent, children suspected of having mental health needs and make referrals as appropriate.
• Carry out all other duties as directed by supervisor.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor degree in Social Work or related field required. Licensed Bachelor Social Work (LBSW), Limited Licensed Bachelor Social Work (LLBSW), or Certified Mental Health preferred or must be willing to enroll in a credentialed program upon employment and successfully obtain credential within 2 years.
• One (1) year of experience working with young children preferred.
• Two (2) years of experience working with low-income families of various racial, ethnic, social, and cultural backgrounds preferred.
• Valid Michigan Driver's License, valid automobile insurance, and reliable transportation to be used for job-related travel are required.

Job Requirements in an 8 hour day:

• Sit – 3 hours
• Stand – 1 hour (picking up of files, supplies, and loading/unloading them)
• Walk – 3 hours (includes walking up/down 3 flights of steps)
• Bend/Stoop – 1 hour (interactions with children, families, and staff)

Qualifications

Education

Required: Bachelors or better in Social Work or related field.
