Position: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Nurse - CVICU RN

Join a dedicated team in a 10-bed Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU). This role requires a nurse with recent experience in open heart recovery. The ideal candidate will be trained to provide immediate post-operative care for open heart patients from day one.

Unit Overview

The facility features 36 licensed inpatient beds and 10 ICU beds, with a focus on expanding cardiac services to accommodate higher acuity patients and the need for a Critical Care Trained Nurse.

Organizational Relationships

• Receives direction from: Providers, Charge Nurse, ICU Director, and Chief Nursing Officer (CNO)
• Gives direction to: RN, LPN, CNA, Housekeeping Staff, Dietary Staff
• Works cooperatively with: Providers, Healthcare Professionals, and Allied Health Staff

Position Overview

The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Nurse will provide comprehensive care to hemodynamically stable or predictably unstable patients in a cardiac medical-surgical unit. Responsibilities include offering physical, emotional, spiritual, and cultural support to patients. Anticipated patient populations may include:

• Pediatrics
• Pre and post PCI care
• Pacemaker patients
• Revascularization and carotid endarterectomy cases
• Thoracotomy patients
• Patients with CHF, COPD, DKA, renal failure, DVT, PE, sepsis
• Broad scope of surgical services

Nurses will be expected to assess and intervene for potential deteriorating conditions, manage advanced medical equipment such as central lines, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, continuous bladder irrigation, A-lines, multiple IVs, and patients requiring short-term ventilation support. The role also encompasses the care of general medical and surgical patients within the unit, ensuring adherence to established policies and procedures with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care from admission to discharge, including discharge planning.
• Act as a clinical leader and assist with precepting new staff.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent, and a Degree from an Accredited Nursing Program.
• Knowledge of advanced nursing principles and procedures, with critical care and CVICU experience preferred.
• Skills in operating advanced medical equipment, including A-lines, invasive lines, chest tubes, and patients requiring ventilation support.

Licensure and Certification

• Current RN Licensure in the State of Montana
• BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification required
