Manager Trainee

Job Summary Under general supervision, the Manager Trainee will learn to manage a small driver count, handle non‑traditional shifts, and ensure safe, timely movement of freight. The role includes load assignment, customer service, DOT compliance, driver compliance, planning, routing, and delivery operations. Key Responsibilities Build and maintain positive relationships with drivers and outside carriers to ensure seamless new carrier set‑up, minimize turnover, and maximize productivity. Fill in for absent or unavailable personnel and contribute to special projects related to fleet operations and profitability. Utilize personnel management skills, including training, orientation, and coaching of drivers and other employees. Measure key performance indicators and create, maintain, and present customer‑specific reporting and financial analysis at customer locations. Manage inventory, assets, customer pools, and assignment of drivers to balance equipment in the market. Perform administrative duties such as payroll, Net‑Revenue budget management, driver counseling, accident reviews, filing, resolving pay issues, analyzing P&L statements, invoicing, and generating operational or financial reports. Manage yard operations: inspect equipment, replace parts, coordinate repairs, schedule preventive maintenance, and resolve safety‑related mechanical issues. Resolve service, routing, mechanical, and accessorial pay issues throughout the day and when on call. Maintain daily safety culture: driver safety messages, briefings, training, reviews, and enforce company policies to meet DOT compliance and safety requirements. Assign loads and plan, route, and monitor freight movement to ensure safe, on‑time service and meet customer requirements, including handling freight exceptions and driver ETA adjustments. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Transportation/Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field. Or high school diploma/GED with one year of experience in management, transportation/logistics, business administration, account management, or related field, and/or equivalent military experience. Willingness to travel to account, customer, and company event locations when applicable. Ability to work across multiple shifts, including nights and/or weekends if needed. Willingness to relocate regionally depending on account assignment. Position is not eligible for employment‑based sponsorship. Preferred Qualifications Experience managing a team.
