Senior Staff Accountant (Arlington Heights)

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are partnering with a fast-growing, innovative Property & Casualty insurance organization that is looking to add a Senior Staff Accountant to it’s accounting team.

The company has built a strong management team and is continuing to invest in its operations and finance capabilities. They are looking for a Senior Staff Accountant who can contribute across the accounting function and bring strong attention to detail, insurance accounting knowledge, and the ability to work independently in a growing organization.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform general ledger accounting activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations and month-end close.

Prepare and analyze financial information for management reporting.

Support GAAP and statutory accounting and financial reporting.

Assist with quarterly and annual financial reporting requirements.

Prepare account reconciliations and investigate variances.

Support the preparation and review of financial schedules and supporting documentation.

Work with Finance team members on insurance accounting transactions.

Assist with accounts payable, cash activity, accruals and other accounting functions as needed

Support internal and external audit requests.

Help identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls and reporting.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.

5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within the insurance industry.

Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations and financial close.

Experience with P&C insurance accounting strongly preferred.

Familiarity with statutory and/or GAAP financial reporting.

Strong Excel skills and comfort working with financial data.

Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

Ability to research accounting issues, identify discrepancies and resolve problems.
