Location: Austin, TX | Pay: $84-94/hr | Contract | Department of Information Resources (DIR)
About the Role
Join a cutting-edge team as a Cloud Solutions Architect, driving large-scale IT modernization and transformation for Data Center Operations within a prominent state agency. As a senior technical leader, you'll spearhead cloud initiatives, design future-ready infrastructure, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, scalable solutions that power essential public services. This role offers exposure to advanced cloud technologies, leadership on high-impact projects, and a collaborative, agile work environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead strategic DCO Service Delivery projects, developing cloud architectural blueprints, technical specifications, and network topologies aligned to business goals
- Drive the transition and automation of systems from on-premises to cloud (public/private/hybrid), championing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and DevOps best practices
- Collaborate with CTO, Enterprise Architects, business stakeholders, and application development teams to deliver business-critical cloud solutions with a focus on security, compliance, and scalability
- Design, implement, and administer highly scalable systems and integrations using AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Guide and mentor technical teams, ensuring on-time, high-quality project delivery and fostering best practices
- Establish robust security measures, manage identity and access controls, and ensure regulatory compliance (including HIPAA)
- Lead solution implementation: troubleshooting, code revision, system integration, testing, and deployment
- Identify current and desired system states, propose actionable strategies to close gaps, and support IT planning and justification
- Oversee and develop staff training on new technologies and platforms
Required Skills and Experience
- 7+ years in cloud architecture, engineering, or IT solution development
- Deep expertise in AWS, Microsoft Azure, or GCP cloud services
- Solid knowledge of SaaS, PaaS, IaaS models and cloud network design
- Hands-on experience with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes, and containerization
- Proven automation skills (Ansible, Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM templates)
- Proficient with scripting (Bash, PowerShell, CLI, Helm) and modeling tools (Visio, MS Office Suite, MS Project)
- Strong background in data governance, security, and compliance in cloud environments
- Experience in cloud monitoring, auditing, and operations tools (e.g., Dynatrace, CloudWatch, Azure Monitor)
- Skilled in declarative and imperative languages (YAML, JSON, Ruby, HCL) and IaC toolsets
- Demonstrated leadership, project management, and technical writing skills
Preferred Skills
- 8+ years in cloud/hybrid IT architecture or engineering
- Deep knowledge of SQL/Oracle databases, data lakes, ETL/ELT, and big data frameworks
- Hands-on experience with AI services on major cloud platforms
- Experience with large-scale enterprise IT and data analytics projects
