Senior Environmental Planner

We are seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Planner to lead and support the delivery of complex environmental planning projects across a varied portfolio of development, infrastructure and regeneration schemes. This role will involve providing high-quality environmental advice from project inception through to consenting, construction and post-project monitoring. You will work closely with clients, project managers, technical specialists, statutory consultees and local authorities to identify environmental risks, develop practical mitigation strategies and help deliver sustainable outcomes.


Key responsibilities will include managing environmental assessments and supporting documentation, coordinating multidisciplinary project teams, preparing and reviewing technical reports, and contributing to planning applications, environmental statements, screening and scoping reports, and strategic assessments. You will provide expert input on relevant environmental legislation, planning policy and consenting requirements, while monitoring changes in regulation and guidance. The role will also involve managing project programmes and budgets, supporting tender submissions, building effective stakeholder relationships and mentoring junior colleagues. You will be expected to contribute to business development through client engagement, proposal writing and the identification of new opportunities.


Applicants should have substantial experience in environmental planning, impact assessment or a closely related discipline, together with a relevant degree or professional qualification. Membership of an appropriate professional body is desirable. You will need a strong understanding of the UK planning and environmental regulatory framework, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to interpret complex information and present clear, commercially focused advice. Strong project management, organisational and problem-solving abilities are essential, as is confidence working independently and collaboratively across multiple disciplines. Experience of major infrastructure, energy, transport, housing or regeneration projects would be advantageous. A proactive approach, sound professional judgement and a commitment to high standards of technical quality are central to success in this position.
