Camp Counselor

USD 17.00 Hourly | CAMP in 50 E Putnam Ave, Greenwich, CT 06807-2608, United States Seasonal Part-time Seasonal position under the direction of the Camp Director, the Group/Floater Counselor will have the camper’s experience as their prime consideration at the Camp Seton outdoor site location. Responsibilities include orientating, instructing and monitoring all participants in the Summer Camp Program setting with an emphasis on safety, inclusivity and development for participants. Reports To Camp Director Pay Range $17/hour - $18.50/hour Essential Functions Participate in a variety of small and large group activities each week. Activities may include crafts, nature, songs, games, opening and closing ceremonies, swimming, sports, etc. This includes time spent on the bus. Identify and respond to camper behavior issues. Ensure that the site is kept clean, organized, and free of litter. Communicate with parents about participant’s experiences and report concerns to Group Leader and Camp Director. Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance. Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the camp program. Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp and all program areas. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for your campers’ safety and their whereabouts at all times. Act as a positive role model and a positive voice for the YMCA of Greenwich. Demonstrate professionalism in the performance of all duties as directed by your supervisors. Reliably work assigned shifts. Confident in an outdoor environment and able to adapt to changing environmental/weather conditions. Teach fundamental outdoor skills and promote environmental stewardship. Qualifications Over the age of 16 years old. Prior work or has experience in working with children/teens preferred. Prior to or upon hire, completion of YMCA provided First Aid/ CPR/AED certification and Medication Administration certification courses. Education classes or experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field preferred. Ability to organize and facilitate program activities. Ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision. Strong organizational and communication skills.
