Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care by delivering intensive respiratory treatments and managing patient transport as medically prescribed. The role demands minimal supervision and involves evaluating patients to recommend comprehensive treatment plans, explaining treatments and procedures, and ensuring proper education for patients upon discharge.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physician-prescribed routine respiratory treatments using various ventilatory and aerosol devices.
• Perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning using oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal methods.
• Monitor oximetry and capnography in accordance with established policies.
• Review patients' chest x-rays for further evaluation when necessary.
• Perform 12-Lead EKG and basic arrhythmia recognition.
• Conduct pulmonary function studies and assist with respiratory care procedures such as bronchoscopy and chest tube placement.
• Administer tracheostomy care, including the insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes.
• Perform arterial punctures and assess ventilation efficiency through monitoring and recording test results.
• Follow all laboratory testing policies, including specimen handling and quality control.
• Execute cardiopulmonary resuscitation in compliance with BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Set up and conduct self-tests on ventilatory equipment, maintaining and monitoring mechanical ventilation.
• Document treatments and patient responses on respiratory care records and communicate information effectively during shift transitions.

Schedule

This position operates on a Night shift with a 3x12 hour schedule.

Assignment Duration

This is a 13-week contract position.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

Candidates must possess a valid state licensure as a Respiratory Therapist and relevant certifications as required by the facility.
