RN Breast and Cervical Cancer Nurse

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care across the lifespan in accordance with organizational standards and evidence-based practice. This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care while delivering culturally sensitive, patient-centered services. The RN collaborates with providers and interdisciplinary teams to promote optimal patient outcomes, safety, and positive patient experiences. The Breast and Cervical Registered Nurse focuses on comprehensive care management for cancer prevention, screening, and diagnostic services, requiring case management certification within two years of hire and competency in specialty equipment. Responsibilities:
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized care plans.
- Implement and evaluate nursing interventions and patient responses.
- Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately per provider orders and policy.
- Recognize changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate interventions or escalation of care.
- Provide patient and family education related to care, medications, and discharge needs.
- Deliver culturally responsive, patient-centered care.
- Exercise independent nursing judgment consistent with Alaska Board of Nursing scope of practice.
- Collaborate with providers and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care and facilitate referrals and follow-up.
- Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and timely in electronic health records.
- Participate in quality and performance improvement activities and maintain required competencies and certifications.
- Report adverse events, near misses, and unsafe conditions per policy.
- Provide guidance and delegation to ancillary staff and support orientation, mentoring, and education of staff, students, and peers.
- Float to other departments or assignments as needed.
- Associate's degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
- Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the State of Alaska.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Case Management certification within two years of hire.
- Clinical competency within three months of hire and every three years thereafter.
- High Risk Competency within three months of hire and annually thereafter.
- Strong clinical judgment, organizational, prioritization, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with electronic health records and clinical systems.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and move up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
- Advanced specialty certifications such as ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, ENPC depending on practice area.
- Experience in Breast and Cervical cancer prevention, screening, and diagnostic services.
- Experience working in fast-paced clinical environments.
- Must obtain all required specialty-specific and advanced certifications within six months of hire.
- High-risk competency validation is required for direct patient care nursing roles and must be maintained annually.
- Ability to work in moderate-to-high noise clinical environments.
- Compliance with safety practices and reporting requirements is mandatory.
- Work schedule and shifts may vary; flexibility to float to other departments or assignments as needed.
- Shift types and patterns are assigned based on organizational needs.
