Job Summary

Registered Nurse, Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit, Madison, Wisconsin. This position provides specialized care to adult and geriatric patients recovering from cardiothoracic surgeries, heart and lung transplants, and complex cardiac conditions. The role requires expertise in advanced cardiovascular monitoring, ventilator management, continuous renal replacement therapy, and specialized cardiac devices.

Job Details

• Schedule: Night shifts from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week, with every other weekend and some holidays required. No call is required. Four 12-hour shifts or blocked weekends may be considered.
• Required Qualifications: Registered Nurse license in Wisconsin or a compact state; American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications; cardiovascular intensive care experience; at least two years of acute care experience within the last three years in the specialty; experience and knowledge of the NextStage continuous veno-venous hemofiltration machine; experience with charting systems; ability to pass a telemetry examination before starting.
• Preferred Qualifications: Experience in cardiothoracic surgery or an acuity-adaptable setting; extracorporeal membrane oxygenation experience; Zoll Thermoguard experience.
• Additional Information: The cardiovascular intensive care unit cares for patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting, valve repair or replacement, aneurysm repair, aortic dissection repair, heart and lung transplantation, thoracic surgery, and treatment for myocardial infarction, cardiogenic shock, heart failure, and dysrhythmias. Clinical responsibilities may include caring for ventilated patients; managing arterial, central venous, pulmonary artery, and intra-aortic balloon pump monitoring; managing ventricular assist devices; titrating cardiac and vasoactive infusions; administering blood products and procedural sedation; managing continuous renal replacement therapy; and caring for post-cardiac surgery, post-craniotomy, and post-neurosurgery patients. Patient assignments typically range from one to two patients, with assignments adjusted according to patient acuity and staffing needs. Floating may be required based on operational needs. A telemetry examination includes adult and pediatric rhythm interpretation and requires a passing score of 80 percent or higher.
