Position Overview

The Occupational Health Service Line Development Physician serves as a key clinical leader tasked with the creation, implementation, and enhancement of occupational health initiatives within a healthcare system, clinic, or private entity. This role merges clinical knowledge with business strategies, adherence to regulations, and workplace safety efforts to foster and sustain the physical, mental, and social health of employees.

By minimizing injury-related downtime, managing workers' compensation expenses, and enhancing employee productivity through preventive care and effective return-to-work strategies, these physicians significantly contribute to the financial health of the organization.

• Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution

• Board certification or eligibility in Occupational Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Family Medicine
• Preferred: Board certification in Occupational and Environmental Medicine
• Active and unrestricted medical license in Massachusetts

• In-depth understanding of occupational health regulations and workplace safety standards
• Proficiency in clinical care as well as program development and administration
• Exceptional diagnostic and clinical decision-making skills
• Strong business insight with the capability to expand service lines
• Effective communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
• Capacity to handle sensitive and confidential information
• Robust organizational, analytical, and documentation skills
• Able to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary setting

• Conduct medical evaluations and provide treatment for work-related injuries and illnesses among hospital personnel
• Perform pre-employment, return-to-work, and fitness-for-duty assessments
• Design and execute occupational health programs, policies, and procedures
• Oversee and manage employee exposure to occupational hazards, including biological, chemical, and physical risks
• Work in partnership with infection control, HR, and safety teams to avert workplace incidents
• Lead vaccination and immunization initiatives for healthcare staff
• Interpret and adhere to OSHA, CDC, and other regulatory standards
• Supervise workplace health surveillance programs (e.g., TB testing, respiratory fit testing)
• Advise on ergonomics and workplace accommodations
• Engage in incident investigations and propose corrective measures
• Maintain precise and confidential employee health records
• Educate staff on occupational health risks and preventive measures
