Employment Type: Full-Time Exempt - Direct Hire Opportunity Job Description Immediate opening for a Floodplain Management Coordinator to support municipalities throughout Northern Maine with floodplain management, hazard mitigation, climate resilience, and community planning initiatives. This is an excellent opportunity for a knowledgeable, collaborative professional who enjoys working with local communities and helping develop practical solutions that improve public safety and long-term resilience. The Floodplain Management Coordinator serves as a technical resource for municipalities participating in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and works closely with local, state, and federal partners to reduce flood risk and strengthen community preparedness. Responsibilities include providing technical assistance, coordinating planning initiatives, preparing grant applications, conducting public outreach, maintaining GIS and floodplain data, and supporting regional resilience efforts. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical, communication, and project management skills and enjoy working on a variety of community-focused projects. Responsibilities Provide technical assistance to municipalities regarding floodplain regulations, permitting, and FEMA compliance. Support community participation in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and Community Rating System (CRS). Assist municipalities with developing, updating, and administering floodplain ordinances. Coordinate regional flood hazard mitigation and climate resilience initiatives. Review floodplain development proposals and provide technical guidance. Maintain and analyze GIS mapping, floodplain, and hazard mitigation data. Prepare technical reports, presentations, and educational materials. Conduct outreach and educational activities related to flood risk reduction, climate adaptation, and emergency preparedness. Assist with preparing and administering local, state, and federal grant applications and reporting requirements. Collaborate with municipal officials, FEMA, Maine Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), Maine Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), and other community partners. Provide limited administrative support for regional code enforcement activities through cross-training as needed. Support additional planning and development projects as assigned. Job Requirements Bachelor's degree in Planning, Environmental Science, Geography, Public Administration, Engineering, Emergency Management, or a related field required. Minimum of two (2) years of experience in floodplain management, community planning, hazard mitigation, environmental permitting, or a related field. Strong knowledge of FEMA floodplain regulations and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational, analytical, and project management abilities. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Experience with GIS software and spatial analysis preferred. Grant writing and grant administration experience preferred. Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) credential preferred, or the ability to obtain certification within one (1) year of hire. Valid driver's license with the ability to travel throughout Northern Maine. Ability to attend occasional evening meetings and regional events.
