We’re looking for a Staff Backend Engineer to join the core Submission Processing team.

You’ll design and build business-critical backend infrastructure, data models, and evaluation systems around complex and fragmented data. The role combines deep backend engineering with system design, data reliability, and AI/ML-enabled workflows.

You’ll have substantial architectural ownership and will be expected to take an end-to-end approach to solving challenging technical and business problems.

What You'll Do

• Architect and build highly reliable, scalable backend systems for complex, data-intensive workflows.
• Own technical direction and architecture within a critical business domain.
• Design robust data models and backend services using Python and PostgreSQL .
• Build and operate cloud-native, serverless infrastructure using AWS Lambda and related AWS services.
• Work with large, fragmented, high-value datasets and ensure data quality, reliability, and observability.
• Develop benchmarking, evaluation, and backtesting processes to validate system and pipeline changes before production rollout.
• Collaborate closely with product, engineering, and AI/ML teams to turn complex business requirements into reliable production systems.
• Establish engineering practices around performance, monitoring, testing, and continuous improvement.
• Help shape technical strategy as the company and engineering organization scale.

What We're Looking For

• 8+ years of practical software engineering experience.
• Recent experience operating at Staff level or equivalent architectural scope .
• Strong experience designing and building complex distributed systems at meaningful scale.
• Deep backend engineering experience with Python or another object-oriented language such as Java, Kotlin, or Rust.
• Strong experience with PostgreSQL or other relational databases .
• Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure and serverless technologies , particularly AWS Lambda.
• Experience taking ownership of systems or business domains from architecture through production.
• A pragmatic, highly analytical approach to engineering and production releases.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, remote environment.
• Must currently be located in the United States.

Nice to Have

• Experience building or shipping products involving LLMs or generative AI .
• Experience working at a fast-moving startup.
• Experience with benchmarking, backtesting, or evaluation of complex data pipelines .
• Experience working with highly fragmented or unstructured datasets.
• Background in insurance, financial services, or another data-intensive industry.
• Experience with high-scale infrastructure at companies operating complex distributed systems.
