Drug Technician (Male Only) (Open)

This classification level is responsible for arranging, conducting, and maintaining documentation for drug screenings. Responsibilities may include collecting, disposing, and maintaining records of urine specimens; conducting drug screenings; maintaining the inventory of testing supplies and equipment testifying in court; reporting and documenting testing results; ensuring documentation procedures are done in accordance with policies and procedures; and providing training on testing result documentation.

Location: In-office only. 602 Iron Horse Drive, Norfolk, NE 68701. Travel: Occasional; required. Individual will travel to satellite testing sites to conduct testing as required to meet district. Work Schedule: Non-traditional hours may be required.

Salary and Compensation: Drug Technician: Starting Salary: $31,985.62 annually (Hiring Rate). Substance Use Monitor: Starting Salary: $38,878.81 annually (Hiring Rate). Growth*: Earn a 2.5% pay increase after successfully completing your probation period (if starting at Hiring Rate). Flexibility: Higher starting pay may be considered based on education and experience, subject to final management approval. Notice: Candidates approved to start above the Hiring Rate (at or above the Minimum Permanent rate) are not eligible for the 2.5% post-probation increase. Future Increases: Annual cost-of-living adjustments (applied on July 1) are subject to State Legislature approval.

Job Duties:

• Greets clients, collects testing forms and accompanies to drug testing area.
• Conduct drug screening in accordance with established systems and procedures using approved testing methodologies. This includes obtaining urine specimen from Probationers, recording, and reporting results.
• Stores testing samples in secure location and ensures chain of custody procedures are observed at all times.
• Maintains drug testing supplies and equipment inventory.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Drug Technician: High School Diploma or equivalent. Substance Use Monitor: Associate's degree in criminal justice, medical/laboratory, or a related area. OR One year of experience as a drug technician or related position. All educational credits must be granted from an accredited institution approved by the U.S. Dept. of Education.

Preferred Qualifications: Prior substance abuse or chemical testing training and working with the offender population.

Physical Requirements: Incumbents may be subjected to fumes, odors, poor ventilation, hazardous materials (chemicals, blood, and other body fluids, etc.), and challenging environmental conditions, imminent danger. Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Requires use of arm and/or leg controls and exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work.
