Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive physical assessments of neonates, including critically ill and premature infants
• Develop and implement individualized plans of care in collaboration with supervising physicians
• Manage acute and chronic neonatal conditions such as respiratory distress, sepsis, congenital anomalies and prematurity-related complications
• Provide advanced procedures including but not limited to intubation, central line placement, lumbar punctures and ventilator management
• Monitor and interpret diagnostic tests including laboratory data, radiologic imaging and cardiopulmonary findings
• Participate in neonatal resuscitation and stabilization at high risk deliveries
• Communicate effectively with families regarding patient condition, treatment plans and prognosis
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including nurses, respiratory therapists and specialists
• Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the medical record
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, research and evidence-based practice
• Provide education and support to staff and families
• Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
• Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
• Regular and prompt attendance
• Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
• Related duties as assigned

Additional Information

Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.


Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in nursing from an accredited institution and completion of an approved nurse practitioner training program Required
• NNP - Neonatal Nurse Practitioner certification Required
• RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) for Alabama Required
• NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Required
• Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
