See the Benefits home page for more information.Position Summary - The University of New Mexico College of University Libraries & Learning Sciences (ULLS) has an opening for a Visiting Lecturer Data Scientist. This position is a full-time, 12-month faculty appointment that can be renewed annually for up to a maximum of three years. This position has a rank of Visiting Lecturer, with a minimum salary of $70,000, negotiable based on experience and qualifications. This position reports to the University Libraries' Director of Learning, Research, and Engagement. As a member of the Learning, Research, and Engagement (LRE) unit's highly collaborative Graduate and Faculty Engagement team, the Visiting Lecturer Data Scientist provides coordinated, full-lifecycle research data support to student, staff, and faculty researchers across all main-campus disciplines at UNM. These support services include consultation and instruction in leading practices in data acquisition, processing, analysis, visualization, and documentation. This position also provides critical support for researchers in data management planning and facilitating compliance with funding mandates. The Visiting Lecturer will develop and maintain productive relationships within the College, across the University, and within the global research data community and will collaborate with campus stakeholders including the Office of the Vice President for Research, the Center for Advanced Research Computing, and the UNM Health Sciences Library and Informatics Center. The Visiting Lecturer will receive training to become a badged Carpentries instructor through the College's Carpentries membership and will promote open science through the development of sustainable educational programs, including coordination and delivery of Software, Data, and Library Carpentry workshops.The successful candidate will engage the broader campus community with empathy, curiosity, and a strong service orientation. Through frequent collaboration with colleagues in the College and across campus, the Visiting Lecturer will have the opportunity to grow and develop as a data science professional through participation in a diverse community of researchers within the University and throughout New Mexico. Candidates do not need to meet every preferred qualification listed; individuals that meet the minimum qualification and have a strong interest in developing further in data science are encouraged to apply.Primary DutiesLead initiatives to support transparent, rigorous research practices across disciplines at UNMProvide consultations and workshops on lifecycle data management, analysis, visualization, and ethical data practices.Contribute to ULLS' data science initiatives, including coordination of and participation in Software, Data, and Library Carpentry workshops.Stay informed of evolving policies, technologies, and best practices in data management and open scholarship.Build strategic partnerships within the University and beyond to foster interdisciplinary research and innovation.Participate as an active member of the LRE Graduate and Faculty EngagementSupport the collaborative development and implementation of Graduate and Faculty Engagement programs, including reference consultations and library instruction.The Environment:Founded in 1889, the University of New Mexico sits on the traditional homelands of the Pueblo of Sandia. Our collections include over three million volumes, UNM's digital repository, LoboGit, and several online digital archival collections.The UL's mission is to support our communities by providing expertise, instruction, services, spaces, and collections that advance scholarship, teaching, and intellectual discovery.To learn more about our city and our University, visit and - Minimum Qualifications:Earned Master's degree from an ALA-accredited Library/Information Science program or equivalent, or an earned PhD in a field engaged with data science.Preferred Qualifications:Experience supporting researchers and campus stakeholders in leading practices in lifecycle data management, including planning, data collection, quality assurance, analysis, visualization, and scientific communication.Experience with teaching or workshop instruction.Experience supporting researchers with the development of data management plans that address funder requirements.Proficiency with Python, R, Git, or other open source languages and platforms.Knowledge of leading practices in FAIR data sharing.Knowledge of frameworks for ethical data practice (i.e., CARE), including principles of tribal data sovereignty.Knowledge of general purpose and specialized data repositories.Demonstrates flexibility across interdisciplinary data and analysis types.Experience working collaboratively.Spoken or written proficiency in Spanish or an Indigenous language of the greater Southwest.Application Instructions - Only applications submitted through the official UNMJobs site will be accepted.
