Contract Days: 182

Hours Per Day: 6 or 7 Hours

Salary: Based on LC Salary Schedule

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Ability to work cooperatively with students, faculty, staff, and the public
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
• Ability to operate commercial kitchen equipment safely and efficiently
• Ability to perform physical duties associated with food service operations
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices preferred

Purpose of Job:

The Child Nutrition Program (CNP) Worker supports the efficient and safe operation of the school cafeteria by assisting with food preparation, serving, sanitation, inventory, and customer service responsibilities. This position helps ensure students receive nutritious meals in a clean, welcoming, and compliant environment while following all federal, state, and local regulations governing school nutrition programs.

Evaluation and Accountability:

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Lauderdale County Board of Education policies and Child Nutrition Program operational standards. Employees are expected to maintain compliance with food safety regulations, attendance expectations, productivity standards, and professional conduct requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Prepare and serve food according to standardized recipes, USDA guidelines, and established portion sizes.
• Assist with food preparation activities including cooking, baking, assembling, and packaging meals.
• Operate commercial kitchen equipment including ovens, steamers, dishwashers, slicers, warmers, and mixers safely and effectively.
• Maintain compliance with HACCP procedures, Health Department regulations, and Child Nutrition Program standards.
• Set up and maintain serving lines, ensuring food is properly stocked, labeled, and maintained at required temperatures.
• Serve students and staff courteously while promoting positive customer service and public relations.
• Operate computerized point-of-sale systems and accurately process meal transactions and payments while maintaining confidentiality.
• Wash dishes, pots, pans, utensils, trays, and kitchen equipment using approved sanitation procedures.
• Clean and sanitize kitchen workspaces, storage areas, serving lines, dining areas, refrigerators, freezers, and food preparation surfaces.
• Sweep, mop, and maintain the cleanliness of the cafeteria and kitchen areas to ensure a safe working environment.
• Assist with unloading, organizing, stocking, and rotating deliveries using FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures.
• Verify deliveries and report shortages, damaged items, or discrepancies to the Child Nutrition Manager.
• Assist in maintaining accurate production records, inventory records, and required program documentation.
• Monitor food quality, appearance, and temperature throughout meal service.
• Follow all safety procedures, including Universal Precautions and proper food handling practices.
• Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and required training programs.
• Maintain professional appearance and hygiene standards in accordance with department policies.
• Work cooperatively with cafeteria staff, administrators, teachers, and students to promote teamwork and efficient operations.
• Report accidents, safety concerns, equipment malfunctions, or operational issues promptly to the supervisor.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Child Nutrition Manager or administration.

Additional Duties Assigned:

Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned to support the daily operation of the cafeteria and Child Nutrition Program. These duties may include, but are not limited to, assisting with breakfast preparation and service along with lunch preparation and service, opening and closing responsibilities, additional food preparation, inventory and stocking, receiving deliveries, cashiering, recordkeeping, sanitation and cleaning, assisting with catering or special events, supporting multiple meal service periods, and assisting cafeteria management as needed. Duties and responsibilities may vary based on the needs of the school or the Child Nutrition Program

This position follows the approved Lauderdale County Board of Education Child Nutrition Program work calendar. Employees are expected to maintain regular attendance, adhere to all district and departmental procedures, and support the mission of providing safe and nutritious meals for students.
