About the Role
The Company is seeking a General Counsel to lead its in-house legal office and provide strategic legal guidance to the organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for advising on a wide range of legal matters, including but not limited to, labor, governance, and policy shaping in the higher education sector. This role requires a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school, a member of the Massachusetts Bar or eligible to become a member, and a minimum of 15 years of progressive legal experience, with a focus on higher education or public-sector law. The General Counsel will also be tasked with leading and developing a team of attorneys, overseeing legal operations, and ensuring compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. Applicants for the General Counsel position at the company should have a strong background in legal leadership, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to build collaborative relationships. The role demands a candidate with a deep understanding of legal issues in higher education, particularly in the areas of employment and labor law, collective bargaining, and federal higher education policy.
